Nine_eleven 2nd Gear September 25, 2015 Share September 25, 2015 this phenomenon only proves that there will not be early scrapping of cars. BUT there WILL be on-time scrapping of these cars. no uber/grabcar operator will renew COEs for these cars. the big deregistration numbers will still come.. just not earlier.
13177 Hypersonic September 25, 2015 Share September 25, 2015 Even those uber operator buy over those 9-10 year old cars, but these cars ultimately will still be scrapped, so where got affected?!

Mockngbrd Supersonic September 25, 2015 Author Share September 25, 2015 (edited) According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), car deregistrations slowed to 5,191 last month, 16 percent lower than July's figure and the second-lowest figure this year. Motor industry players were expecting more cars taken off the road as their Certificates of Entitlement (COE) reach expiry at the end of the 10th year. Above sentence does seems to imply that the cars have already gone past their 10 years without being scrapped. Grabtaxi just got bigass additional funding now flush with $$$. Buying cars at scrap value and tossing in a 5yr COE prob. makes more sense than buying new. http://sbr.com.sg/source/e27/grabtaxi-scores-8-figure-sum-funding-singapore%E2%80%99s-vertex-venture-holdings https://sg.news.yahoo.com/taxi-booking-app-grabtaxi-raises-350-million-fresh-172147193.html Edited September 25, 2015 by Mockngbrd

Lala81 Hypersonic September 25, 2015 Share September 25, 2015 Even those uber operator buy over those 9-10 year old cars, but these cars ultimately will still be scrapped, so where got affected?! So? They will eventually have to keep buying cars to either stay stable or expand what. Of course there will be market equilibrium after a while, but this means 2500 COEs in the hands of these operators. U think they will not get new vehicles if their business model works?
Nine_eleven 2nd Gear September 25, 2015 Share September 25, 2015 those holding on to 6-7 year old cars will be happy... their cars will be worth 'market value' rather than "paper+ body" in two years time.. coz uber/grabcar companies will have to pay more for these cars... Columbian78 6th Gear September 25, 2015 Share September 25, 2015 Old cars from the boomer years being renewed and then scrapped after 5 years during the "lean" years might help to smooth out the COE cycle. Maybe not alot but help abit. Good for us in the long run. We should have learnt the lesson.
