Yap there is 2 points here... One is lab test vs real-world conditions...which has been a known issue for many cars in EU...

Two is that brands are known to program such that it direct all its power to enhance results in lab test criteria... which is also a understatement across the industries from car to cpu to smartphone benchmarks...

Didnt seem VW is any difference.. maybe they are just being too forthright now ironically...

Unfortunately VW has chosen to beat the system unfairly and illegally. But considering your comments, VW must be wishing more customers and investors will think like you. :P Their share prices won't lai sai if their wishes come through.

Turbocharged

ya, most buyers don't care about emissions, really.

what is worrying is that if they can cheat on this and not get found out for so long, they could have cheated on something else too.

yes, effectively, it's an integrity issue.

I do care about emissions... but I ended up with a CEVS C1 car anyway so I guess I'm hypocritical

But in the future I think I will definitely choose a car that doesn't emit more than 120g/km. Time to enjoy the power while I can......

11 million Volkswagen vehicles around the world are affected by diesel-emission reading irregularities, the carmaker said. http://str.sg/ZBEJ

[shocked] [shocked]

I won't be surprised if many of them are SEAT/Skodas sold in Europe...

C1 is still "ok" lah. In any case, who knows if those "A" cars are as environmentally friendly as their emission ratings claim.

"Exposed to sunlight, nitrogen oxides convert to ozonemaking smog. How much depends on a bunch of variables, like sunlight exposure and what happens to the hydrocarbon emissions (the uncombusted fuel), plus the temperature and local winds.

However much extra crap came from the VWs, it wont be good. Exposure to nitrogen oxide and ozone is linked to increased asthma attacks, respiratory illnesses, and in some cases premature death. Ozone also worsens existing cardiovascular and lung disease."

VW contributed greatly to Ozone depletion in the last 6 years.

And we wonder why the freaking hole keeps getting bigger. 11 million ozone buster on the roads.

The indirect mortality alone from these blatant cheating and lack of morals for profits will be in the hundreds of thousands decades from now.

They have blood on their hands. No difference from those idiots bombing us with the haze.

VW engine or Audi engines all sama sama la. Reputation can rebuild. Blood on their hands........ They think set aside $7B can settle? Same league of Chinese manufacturers that make tainted baby powder milk.

Volkswagen models in emissions scandal not sold in Singapore: NEA

A man walks near a Volkswagen vehicle during an exhibition in Shanghai in this April 20, 2015 file photo.

SINGAPORE -The Volkswagen diesel models affected by a widening emissions-cheating scandal are not sold in Singapore, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said.

Based on the information available so far, the NEA "understands that the cases reported in the United States pertain to Volkswagen diesel models that are not sold in Singapore", it said in a statement late Tuesday.

However, the agency will investigate and take "appropriate action against any cases of fraudulent emissions claims".

Shares in Europe's biggest carmaker plunged almost 20 per cent on Monday after it admitted using software that deceived US regulators measuring toxic emissions in some of its diesel cars.

The affected diesel cars have so-called Type EA 189 engines which are built into about 11 million Volkswagen models worldwide, Reuters said.

Under Singapore's environmental regulations, all vehicles need to comply with stipulated emissions standards, NEA said.

Good idea. Don be surprised tomorrow Temasek swoop in and scoop up a bunch of shares to become the major shareholder.

more importantly, how to buy as it is german stock exchange and when is the right price to go in..

knowing large buying pattern, they can buy under the black pool where it is not in the trading visibility

haha... Tim and Co. at Apple are gleefully rubbing their hands and wondering if they could just buy VW group and spend some of that $200b they have parked outside the US. Locks well with their reported plans of an Apple car in 2019.

But whether AAPL or SAIC... neither can touch VW... because there is a law in Germany called the VW Law. If you haven't before... read about how Porsche tried to take over VW using options but ended up getting acquired themselves when they ran out of money and had to be bailed out by VW.

VW turn around plan....

Turn the V around.... your get A.

Apple Wagen...

How nice to have ecu controlling everything in a car.

You can control it for "good" as well as for "bad", by a flick of a switch.

Just what every control freak wanted. Like ERP, just changing on whims and fancies by a flick of a switch.

VW may be bad, but they are just being caught with their pants down.

Doesn't mean other car makers are spotlessly clean.

When it comes to big money, anything goes.
