2. detuned with lower performance

No one knows for sure what will happen to the performance and fuel consumption after the recall. But maybe it will improve? It's hard to say, I agree that with a software update, there's a limit to what can be achieved. But if they really fit new hardware parts, it could be that both performance and fuel consumption improve while the NOx emissions go down. As they say, anything is possible, it just depends on how much you want to pay for it. Now that VW has already set aside billions of dollars to fix this issue, they might well install the expensive solution on the affected cars and then they would be even better than new.

Now we know why the Japs have been producing many CMI green cars, worse each new generations less perhaps those with hybrid technology whereas the Germans are getting greener and greener by the day and with incremental power increase along the way. I wonder who else cheated?

As the scandal unfolds.....

http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=13916

An Audi and two Skoda passenger diesel vehicles imported into Singapore were found to be fitted with devices to cheat emission tests, following investigations by the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the Land Transport Authority, reported The Straits Times. The latest three vehicles involved were imported directly and not sold or registered by local car distributors.

Anyone else got more updated news?

Ya...it was reported that all VW car sold by AD is NOT affected.

Confirmed by NEA some more.

All NEA needs to do is publish another announcement, "Test reveals XXX models affected by emissions scandal"

Then ones hopes all dashed.

Why not face it now? As long as one has a diesel vehicle by VW group, one is highly likely affected.

Reach out to VW/Audi dealers and find out recourse action instead of hoping ones turn never comes.....

I believe all new diesel cars from VW are already withdrawn from sales.

It is not like the govt is going to ban those affected diesel cars since it is not the fault of the buyers.  Most probably VW has to address the emission issue.   Why hope dashed? On the contrary...the current owners can continue to zoom zoom in their powerful cars (while polluting the environment).   Akin to those luxury/power cars owners whose cars spew out 2-5 times more CO2 than the avg car.

yes, which was the point discussed several pages ago. Is the firmware update mandatory? Likely, because CEVS is involved. LTA won't let you zoom zoom while you enjoyed the rebate with false carbon emission levels.

While we have one brother hoping that some diesel models from VW group not involved.....

Meanwhile,

http://www.cnbc.com/2015/11/03/germanys-vw-new-problems-with-800000-vehicles.html

"....... the regulator will likely investigate the company's gas engines in California in wake of discovering the irregularities out of Europe...."

"The issue is the CO2 from all their fleet, not just from diesel vehicles, and I think we probably will have to go back and look at what they've been reporting....."

"... a VW statement on Tuesday that it had understated the level of carbon dioxide emissions in around 800,000 cars sold mainly in Europe, and consequently their fuel usage. This means affected vehicles are more expensive to drive than their buyers had been led to believe....

Like I said the govt will have to wait for VW to fix the issue for the diesel.   From the news it is not clear whether the defeat device also gives false CO2 readings which is related to CEV rebate and not just NOX level.

If in the event VW cannot fix the issue with the diesel (which is unlikely), only then the liability of who is going to pay for the extra CEV comes into question.   I just think all the nay-sayers are just jumping ahead of themselves painting a doomsday scenario.  Anyway the quantity of diesel cars sold by VW Singapore is minuscule.

Of course, if the petrol engine were also found to contain defeat software, then that's another matter altogether.  Up until now there is nothing concrete on this yet except from VW own admission that "some" petrol engine figures were understated.

What I do know is that VW commercial diesel vehicles are affected, and people who were originally due to take delivery of their bookings were told that the delay is indefinite and that they had the option to take back their deposits, or purchase petrol cars at deeply-discounted prices.

Unlikely scenario. There is always one constant in life : Government always gets payed.

These cars enjoyed CEV/clean diesel rebate from the government under false pretences .

Die die the government will either chase the owner to repay them the rebate OR force the owner to bring in his VAG car to be tuned to be line with the LTA regulations for rebates (ie detuned engine).
