I have the Sharp cup shaped ioniser, serving me well for the past 7 years, sent in to Sharp for servicing and cleaning once. Recently, I brought over to my new car and hopefully, it last.

Saw a similar one at Toyota service centre and it is branded as Denso now.

I didn't know it can be serviced.  May I know what does it entails and the cost please? Thanks.

At 184x77x243, I think it's one of the largest air purifier in the market.  lol.

Here's how it looks like hanging behind the driver's seat.  http://image.suning.cn/uimg/sop/commodity/611841502821550298848000_x.jpg  I've also seen SUV owners install it underneath the front seat.

Noise level wise, at its normal speed, no front passenger ever noticed I have an air purifier.  Some rear passengers noticed it after a while, but it's still very soft and not intrusive.

Sorry I misled you.  It's powered by the cigar lighter.  However, I modified it to draw power directly from the car battery so that it can continue to run after I have switched off the engine.

Hanging behind the driver seat doesn't look stable leh.  [sweatdrop]

That looks like quite a big unit. Don't know where to place this if its in my car.. Hows the noise level? And the normal 12v not sufficient to power up this unit?

I also been thinking where is the best spot to place in our City.  [:p]

It happened that 1 day, the purifier refused to turned off with the blue blinking light.

Thought it was spoilt and started to look for new replacement. But nowhere was selling this design.

Brought to Sharp and was told that the unit required cleaning, something about the ionizer unit was dirty. They took apart the unit and cleaned the part, especially the ionizer (white color part) and collection in few days time. Surprisingly, the cost was $20+, can't remember the exact cost but confirmed way below $50.

How about sitting on the rear parcel shelf or hatch cover?

Once installed, it operates automatically so you don't have to reach it to turn it on or off.

Mine is secured with double-sided Velcro stripes.  This way I can easily pull out the entire air purifier and close the armrest for a 3rd passenger to sit on.

Thanks for the input.  I shall try to dismantle mine when the time comes.  My oldest is only 3+ years old.

Seems like nowhere to put leh.. Maybe have to look for a smaller unit.

Get the small Sharp "cup" Ionizer.  Although it will only take up your cup-holder's space, I don't like the sight of its power cable. For me, I'll get my installer to hide it away, possibly in the footwell, or on the rear parcel shelf.    [bounce1]

Here's the current model for those who have not seen the "cup":  http://www.sharp.co.jp/pcig/products/ighc15.html

Possible to put under the passenger's seat?

Is it still effective if under the seat? Maybe im just paranoid. But i feel that the machine cannot suck effectively if under the seat.
