It is quite amazing that Kah Motors is offering a 13 year old engine on the current car and charging $90K with no Honda Sensing.

And yet, there are people still buying it.

I guess the badge sells, and their decision has been right.

The current 1.6 Civic uses the same 1.6 SOHC engine found in the FD Civic 2 generations ago.

The engine is only part of the equation. Good thing is, 13 years and still in service. It's a proven and reliable engine and plenty of spares available

The problem of 1.6 civic vs Altis is that 1.6 civic only has TWO air bags compared to 7 airbags on Altis. I cannot understand how two air bags can still meet minimum safety requirements in 2019. Our safety standards should only progress with time.

The only civic that I can accept is the 1.5T civic which comes with 6 airbags. Unfortunately it's also at least 20k more expensive than Altis elegance model (which comes with keyless entry and push start button). Altis does have a trunk release button at the rear boot, but not sure if it's only on the elegance trim.

It's true of all manufacturers in SG. The new Mazda3 also has the old underpowered 1.5L engine.

But it's absolutely true that most car buyers don't actually know the difference between engines anyway. I've had many chats with people interested in my CRV 1.5T (including my own father) and they are shocked to learn that it's a 1.5T for "such a big car".

What's even more hilarious is they then go on to "advise" me that I should've gotten the bigger engine because the car is heavy and needs more power. Well... there is exists an older 2.4L inline 4 for the CRV in other markets, but it's the entry level model and produces less power and torque.

That is to say that 95% of car buyers actually don't know that car manufacturers are moving more to forced induction engines to meet emission and fuel efficiency standards. So when someone says there is a 1.6 and a 1.5T, most typical car buyers think the 1.6 is better.

Petrol engines are on the chopping board, but the Japs may have the tech to save it....

That means people buying the reliability of the engine n brand . These buyers are pragmatics and dun need the bells and whistles of modern tech.

Im looking at a new car and the 1.5 is one of my choices. Just wondering should I get the PI unit or from the agent?

Also looking at A200, skoda rs245,forester. Budget around 145k.

Is the PI one worth the price?

Each car has associated maintenance costs, so make sure you get all the info you need first.

Also decide what's important:

Speed

Brand / badge

Reliability

Low operating costs

Each car that you mentioned represents a certain proportion of that. Plus the cars are so different, they will handle very differently... especially the SUV and hatchback vs the sedans..

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes i understand that it's like a sedan, hatch and suv there. I have no preference really. I was driving e qashqai so that one is about to scrapped soon.

Don't care about the badge but for some reason, i like the civic 1.5 amongst all the listed options. So thought about the PI unit

Hi, I am driving a 4 month old Honda Civic Auto 1.6 from Kah Motor. I bought it brand new. I noticed at low speed (say 30-40kmph), if i i press the accelerator a bit and let go and press again, i can hear clicking noise. I already noticed this problem within a month of getting the car but I dont want to go to Kah to complain without the ability to simulate this. On Monday, I went to Kah to complain and simulate this to the advisors there. When i first show to the advisors, they agree something is wrong. Then, they came up with some documentation that this is expected and this is normal car operation. But they refuse to let me have the documentation. Just let me read and that's it. They then let me try a test drive car which also have some problem although less noise compare to mine.

I also noticed my fuel consumption has been slowly creeping up too. When I first had the car, it was 7.1l/100 (I was driving very conservatively then). When I started driving normal, it went up to 7.5l and continue to go up to 8l/100km now. I maintained the tyre pressure at the recommended pressure every 2-3 weeks. Same driving pattern and route. Anyone encountering this and any advice? I feel like writing to CASE especially on the clicking noise. Please advise. Thanks

the clicking noise is normal, it is the fuel cut device that is working, I have this also

what are the main differences between the PI & AD units of 1.5t? lowest from KAH for the 1.5t was 113k which we might see if soon with another Cat B drop.

i think only PI is bringing in the hatch though if you prefer the hatch.

My preference is towards the PI one which is the hatch cos of some of the extra features and prefer the design of the hatch.

PI has about 10bhp more, Honda sensing, is the hatch, lane assist and blond spot too if im not wrong. I think a gentleman has no android auto, only Apple car play but im not too sure
