10th Generation Honda Civic (2016)

Many many years ago when I was shopping my first car I asked the same question about other cars was DOHC and why the Civic (back then) was SOHC. The lady SE told me their SOHC is better than others DOHC.

 

Early this year, I went to KM showroom asking why the new Accord has the same engine as my CL7 which is more than 10 years old engine. The SE said this engine is so good that doesn't need to change new engine still can sell. :XD:

I want to be a Honda salesman.

 

I can do it.

 

My MIL is meaner than your MIL

 

And if you disagree she will bite you

 

Really hard with her false teeth.

I really love this Civic design.

 

It's just the Honda engine I don't like.

 

Sounds like a Singer sewing machine.

 

And the price

As I understand Vezel was sold by PIs before KM (AD) bring it in.

 

I kinda remember Fit and Jazz as the same situation. (correct me if im wrong pls. Not too sure)

 

Anyway I do retract my previous statement as it is generally wrong, since PI do bring in cars to compete head to head if there is a demand or a substantial price difference.

The first test drive videos of the 2016 civic are out on YouTube. Even if the civic is going to be MIT, the styling and engine technology are going to be really class leading. Pricey for sure but damn, it's going to be really desirable.

I heard that some reviewers have commented on the CVT being draggy etc

Thought the modern CVTs have improved a lot so abit disappointed to read this feedback.

 

What's u guys take on this cos Honda engines known to be responsive and with a draggy gear change, it kind of contradicts it but then again not sure if the feedback is accurate or not?

depends on those reviewers driving what cars currently, if their cars are DCT or DSG, definitely felt CVT draggy, if their cars are 5AT or 6AT, they will give different feedback

you won't know until it's here in SG.

Some reviews also say the inifiniti Q50 gearbox is also draggy.

CVTs respond best if u are like staying at 3000 rpm. If u rev beyond that, it's just a waste of time. Even the modern ones. As long as your engine has decent torque at lowish revs, it should be not too bad.

The 10th gen Civic has taken care of the rubber-band feel on CVT. It is using the new CVT techno which eliminate the rubber-band feel. During hard driving, the CVT will stay at high rev a little longer during changing of gear making it a sporty driving. This is a copy of the Honda's performance signature revs. As such, you will not see the rev drop during hard acceleration in 0-100km/hr rush.

 

Also, learned from Youtube on Civic review, Honda is using the new bushing with oil filled to eliminate vibration and noise intrusion in cabin. Very good design and make the 10th gen Civic a class above the rest. it is worth waiting to test drive the Civic next year.

The more I read on the 10th gen civic review, the more I convince this is going to be a highly anticipate better car.

i don't know if you have driven CVT transmissions before but what you have just described is rubber band feel ie

 

floor the accelerator, revs go sky high then wait for CVT transmission to transmit the torque to the wheels

 

shorter wait =  lesser rubber band feel

I believe the article write up meant the gear move up swiftly 2,3,4,5,6 progressively without and dip of rev.

Unlike manual gear, during hard driving, most of the time has problem to maintain high rev >4500rpm. changing to higher gear will cos the rev to dip losing the momentum of power band.

Quite nice leh. Think this design is an acquired taste, grows on you the more you look at it. 

 

Considering for 2nd car (more for wife/mum to ferry kids) next year, especially if COE can soften a bit more...

Hope KAH can somehow bring in the MIJ models, and price it more competitively vs the other B&B brands.

Hmm.. looks like this model will be manufactured in Canada and the States.. wonder if it will ever make it here..

For info, there is no gear in a CVT drivetrain.

There won't be a MIJ Civic as Japan has stopped Civic's production quite some time ago.

Car in SG is damn expensive. If have a choice, I think more will prefer MIJ.

Mazda 3, Vezel, Jazz, Ody is a very good example.

I doubt 2016 Civic will sell well if not MIJ.

Jazz and City also suffer from being MIT despite being priced as "premium". I think you might be right, the Civic will probably suffer a bit if it is MIT as well.

 

Corolla is cheaper than the Civic and it's selling well despite being MIT.
