Still find it strange why our govt insist on having a diesel tax, can understand previously why this is needed but in this day and age?

To add a new revenue stream = good for government, to kill off the revenue stream = bad for government.

Especially since more money is needed for the new road works, new MRTs, new buses, etc.

I don't deny it's good revenue for the govt but when diesel tax was first introduced, I remember it was meant to be punitive in view of diesel being bad for the environment and dirtier in general.

But since diesel of today is cleaner and in fact some write-ups say even cleaner than petrol, this punitive tax should be removed totally IMO otherwise it would only fuel speculation that it's a revenue generating exercise which govt constantly denies.

This diesel tax is obviously a revenue generating exercise.

There's no tax for diesel at the pumps so obviously they have to get it from elsewhere.

Yes, exactly.

And there is nothing wrong in collecting more.

Yes by your logical explanation can reduce the diesel tax.

But we'll implement carbon tax. So everything that emits carbon can be tax.

That will certainly include petrol, diesel, natural gas, kerosene, bio-diesel.

Even the rubbish incinerator & crematorium will have to be tax.

Carbon tax will be the mother of all tax.

If the government reduce tax, then I worry.

Road tax rebate...petrol tax...

With 70% popularity, there is absolutely no reason not to raise some tax. Diesel seems like a good place to start.

When such news big on newspaper, it's a precursor to something to come...

Higher diesel tax, particulate tax....

Didn't toll matching sounds familiar?

So, with petrol tax upped, next they will justify that with diesel tax hike to equalize....

Just like articles now start appearing hinting GST increase.

Huat arh... Aftermath erection effects. [bounce2]

Clattering is noticable during idling. Change exhaust also no use.

at least can hear the pop pop sound from the rear to drown out the clattering

I sat in with some LTA scholars once during feedback session on the Euro IV days.

Scholar was writing on whiteboard that the Special Tax was calculated based on equalization of petrol duty not collected. It was set at 36,000km a year breakeven for a 1.6 to 2.0 litre car.

Now with Euro 5 and 6 and reduced special tax, not sure what the basis for their calculation is.

During idling, no way it will be drown out.

Engine tua liap enough, no clatter.

We don't hear those 11 to 16 litre trucks clattering right? Possible having a turbo muffles the clatter too (like how turbo on petrol cars lower exhaust note), possibly the huge turbos on those trucks help.

8 litre V10 turbodiesel with akrapovic, should be no clatter I daresay. Just have to buy new tyres more often.

Then fat people emit more CO2, people who exercise emit more CO2!

have to tax!

I believe pang sai also mostly carbon. Have to increase cistern tax!
