Seldom use a mobile phone, but carry one when on holiday in Europe just in case.

Both last year and this year couldn't get access by phone using an M1 sim card in France.

Went to the Nokia Customer shop and the guy there spent 45 minutes or so trying to get access using my phone but could not.

Contacted M1 who were no help.

Recently in Portugal and Spain had no problem at all using my mobile.

Anyone else had problem in France with M1 mobile sim card.

The phone is G3.???

France currently has 4 mobile networks, Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free all of which are licensed for GSM and UMTS. Before the launch of Free Mobile in January 2012, the number of physical mobile phone operators was very limited. For example, Ireland currently has 4 licenced operators with their own networks despite a smaller and sparser population than France's making improved coverage less economically rewarding. However, France has a number of MVNOs which increases competition.

However, Free Mobile obtained its licence in December 2009 and operates since January 2012.[1]

In France, the satellite telecommunications system TELECOM 1 (TC1) will provide high-speed, broadband transfer of digital data between different sections of subscribing companies. Conventional telecommunications links between continental France and its overseas departments will also be supplied.

I always buy local pre-paid when overseas, cheaper also.

Bring your passport to one of their local telco shop and register for one.

Much better network, and sometimes bundled with huge amounts of data. Definitely more worth it!

The mobile could pick up all the four networks in France.

Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free

But the phone wouldn't connect and kept showing a prompt, 'call rejected. Active call barrings'.

The nokia guy confirmed this was an M1 problem and the phone was working as shown since with it working in UK, Portugal and Spain.

But M1 kept repeating it had nothing to do with them.

Very annoying.

Highly possible the settings. Only way to test is to use a SIM from another provider. [laugh]

Not the phone settings.

It's a nokia and the nokia tech guy worked on it for over 45 minutes and couldn't find anything wrong with the phone.

And then with the same settings as when it didn't work in France it worked in UK, Portugal and Spain.
