A quick update on the steering column issue.

Just changed mine today. Send car in for the change + regular servicing. Car send in at 8am and received a call at 2pm that car is ready for collection.

Drove 6km back to office. So far so good, no more sound and everything seems fine. But then again, it's only 6km so I will need to drive more in order to tell. The only thing that tell me I got a new part is a plastic cover that cover the lever that is used to adjust the steering wheel height (up and down).

Alignment seem fine so far as well. I will drive for a few more days and feedback again. And for bro/sis whose car is having this issue, quickly get the part ordered and changed when the car is still under warranty, as this part cost around 1.5-1.6k SGD.

Also confirmed is that it's mainly for the 2018 batch. 2016 and 2017 currently not affected.

hi bro,

May i know what is the steering issue?

i also noticed that I heard some sound when i turn steering wheel fast like during parking. the feeling is like the steering wheel is tight. my car is collected 2018 March.

i intended to complain about it when i send my car for 40,000km Servicing but not sure if my problem is what is being discussed here as Steering Column problem.

by the way, if i intend to bring my own oil, any bros can advise what other oil that will or parts that will be changed so i can buy and provide beside engine oil, ATF oil? what brand and type recommended?

Hi,

Yours doesn't sound like the same problem. Mine is once you turn the steering wheel, even when the car is stationary, you can hear some 'rubbing' sound already. The moment you turn you can hear, and it will not go away.

But it's good to feedback to KMC during your next service. Believe they had changed so many steering column that once they hear the sound they can tell.

=========

And another update, drove about 40-50km since yesterday. Everything looks good so far. Hope to keep it that way.

Just have a closer look at the ac compressor. I must say it is big... i do not see any issue compressing. However the fan of elantra sound softer than other car. Maybe a more powerful fan will increase the cooling power

Hi Johnny,

Alexandra. I guess its the main branch, best to go there for a warranty job of this 'size'.

Technically steering column change will not impact the alignment. But....... maybe the steering is new and feel is different (+ I am a very sensitive driver). I somehow feel alignment is out by a little. Hope to get use to it soon.

Anyone has magnetic shade Contacts for elantra?

I just received the magnetic shades... $30 for 6 pieces. Two front, two rear window pieces, plus 2 three-quarter window pieces. Mind you, this is for the Hyundai Sonata VIII... fit is not perfect, but good enough. Magnets pretty strong. Only problem is where to put the shades when you don't want to use them. I dump mine on the parcel shelf at the rear windscreen area. You decide if it's good enough... definitely not the same standard as Laser Shades, the original brand that costs $250 when I asked for a quote 3 years back when I first got my car... but that was for 5 pieces, two front, two rear side windows, plus rear windscreen... no idea how to attach the rear piece cos no metal frame... probably by wedging it in?

Just changed mine this morning too. Went in at 750am, 11am collected car. No more sounds from steering when turning. Saw a plastic wrapper on the steering height adjust lever.

Bought mine from Lazada. Fits perfectly. Bought at $31.90 during sales. Now is around $42.

Quality is quite good. Snap on easily. 4 pieces, for the side windows.

Can search for "Hyundai Elantra (6th Gen) 2016 - 2019 Magnetic Sunshade".
