adrianty 1st Gear September 17, 2018 Share September 17, 2018 If you abit adventurous to do DIY, can try Naisol ZR53. Can buy from Amazon, costing about $100/bottle including shipping which is enough for a medium-size car, and comes with everything you need including microfibre cloths for buffing and cleaning. Alternatively get the service from Benny of Duragloss to do the coating. Sure to last and not expensive at all. Where can I find this Benny to do duragloss? I found a link here but no clue. http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2687424-which-duragloss-should-i-get-for-this-job/ ↡ Advertisement

If I am to get professional help, he would be the one to go to. Right now I am still experimenting with Naisol ZR53 as he accepts only relatively new cars. Acapulco 2nd Gear September 17, 2018 Share September 17, 2018 What I am going to post is likely to make some people give me dislike haha. I would think the situation of clueless drivers got worse when government introduced class 3A driving license years back. Those who go through this path never learn how to change gears and practice getting biting point to prevent engine stall. For them, my wife included, driving car is just start engine, turn steering wheel, and control accelerator and brake. Everything that happens in between are a deep mystery! I wonder how many who complain about this jerk here belongs to this category. How many actually has been driving manual cars for a while before getting the ride, or understand how to do gear change. I worry we get laughed at if it has been pointed out subsequently that this has been due to our ignorance and incompetence at driving, that we do not know something so basic and fundamental. I quote another good example to illustrate my point. I just got a used car with DCT very recently. DCT stands for Dual-Clutch Transmission, much like manual gearbox trapped in a auto gearbox, which was made infamous by VW. After convinced my wife that this ride is really value for money and worth to get instead of typical Japanese/korean fares with auto gearbox, we went ahead to buy it. But on the first day of collection, everything was swee swee till we reached home. We needed to drive it up a small incline slope and suddenly it gave up large wailing noise but moved up very very slowly despite stepping hard on the accelerator. My wife was angry after that, thinking that we just got ourselves a lemon. How could a car with century sprint figure of 9.1sec struggled in going up the slight slope when all lesser rides we have in the past all chiong up with ease? So there was this silence for the next 2 days as I frantically trying to figure out what went wrong. In the end after a few tries, found the cause - the ride struggled when it tried to go up the slope at 4th gear! When the ride reach my house, it slowed to 4th gear but the car did not know it is going up a slope so it continue with that gear. But as 4th gear no power to go up slope, it will just move very slowly. After knowing the cause, just need to slow the ride and pause abit for it to down gear and it will chiong up the slope with ease. You could say the car is lousy but this is due to the design of the DCT gearbox if you know more about gearbox, which behave abit different from normal auto gearbox. Please find out more if you are keen. And yes, DCT gearbox will display the gear the car is engaged in versus a normal auto gearbox. So my knowledge about this technology help to avert a tricky situation. Now we are enjoy the ride more as we keeping it, which is definitely more worth it to get than the typical fares. I can only say good thing I did not go down workshop to kpkb as I would have become a biggest laughing stock for the staff to share with new car owners about ignorant car owners haha. My point is to please find out more before you go workshop kpkb, or risk reflecting bad on yourself. It is definitely good to share and give feedback, as it is good to get consensus on issues. There might really be issues, just that we need to tackle it with proper approach. Perhaps any current owners who has much experience on manual car can give your frank assessment of the jerk if it is considered acceptable? I have been driving manual for more than 20 years. My other car beside the elantra is a 5(M) nissan sunny and i still drive it occasionally. When driving any manual car, i will downshift to 3rd year when approach a stop. The engine break effect is exactly as what is felt in the elantra. I drove Elantra for 2.5 year. There is noticeable engine brake at around 50 kmh if you do not accelerate; but it it NOT sudden jerk.Agree. I can only feel a restrained forward motion but not a jerk. When the gear downshifts at 50kph and you feel the pull, RPM increases. U actually have more power in case u need to accelerate again due to the higher RPM. If it doesn't downshift, you will be in a higher gear (lower RPM) and acceleration actually is slower.Absolutely agree.
csy_sky 3rd Gear September 17, 2018 Share September 17, 2018 All these gear shift timing/rpm can be remap easily once the AD or manufacturer decided to do something on it.... Why don't try to email to Hyundai to try luck, if they want to entertain this small piece of 1.6l market ..... If dont want to feedback then just accept it as it is. If the car keep running on high gear low speed, then when you suddenly press the pedal your car will be lack of power to accelerate... On the other hand if car shift to lower gear a bit earlier will cause a slight jerk, but you can accelerate your car with better power after the shift.... Johnnylim 5th Gear September 17, 2018 Share September 17, 2018 Many of my colleagues claimed that even those done by proper workshops (>$800) cannot really last very long, longest about 2 years plus. Granted that most did not do follow-up polishing by the shop (because additional costs), they were conscientious owners who wash every week. And since I'm pretty value conscious, it did not make sense to me One suggestion was to just wash and wax and treat it as a therapeutic process; or to go JB do polishing package. Of course ymmv. Hope it helps! What helped to alleviate your concerns? Refer post #15101
