The driver IS being Inconsiderate. "BOC" / Basic operational checks are a fundamental and basic prerequisite before you move off in your vehicle. It is the sole responsibility of the driver to ensure that the vehicle he or she is driving is in road worthy condition. Doing a weekly checks on your lights can help prevent this.

I've seen too many cars on the road with faulty lights, some are brake lights, rear lights or headlights. I wonder why this is not heavily enforced here, whilst in other countries, it is a serious offence to drive with non operational lights.

I myself do checks on the brake lights reflected on the wall when I reverse in or moving out pretty consistently. Just happen one day at traffic lights, a bus was behind me, I applied brakes but sees no brake lights at all reflected on the bus windscreen. Turning on the tailights I can see the lights reflected. But never have I expect all brake lights were to fail at one go but anyhow the brake switch was found faulty and replaced on the same day. Inconsiderate? Well sometimes, things are just pure coincident, but I am glad to detect it. But usually I will give the driver's of brake lights failure a benefit of the doubt that they do not know at all because they can't see whether their brake lights are working or not.

Good on you to do frequent checks on your car operational systems. These days, most owners just drove the car as a mode of transport and neglect what is critical. If rules are to enforce here as how they are set, we wouldn't have seen or heard accidents on the road so frequently in recent years or seen cars driving with totally lights off at night already. We can only count on our own situation awareness then.

Disagree.. I met one skt7xxx plate mz3 just last Friday night, i was behind him, around 8+pm, at slip road exiting tpe to punggol.. Initially I thought he didn't switch on the light but when I was slightly beside, noticed the front got white light but all rear light was gone..., then when I filter to his back and high beam him once, but as usual, he was offended...at one point, I wind down passenger window and waiting for him to pass my left( I was stationary, waiting for right turn) so that I can show him some hand sign but he overtook at speed with his hand showing me some hand sign... Hehehe...

I think what u saw was the daytime running lights on newer cars. I saw Altis driving on highway at night with no tailights but at the front I can see the DRL lights are on. Somehow, I blame it on the manufacturers who decided to make the instruments lighted up regardless day or night and hence, on our well lit road, it will easily pass off as the headlights are "on". Even with the lights on icon, it is easily not noticeable too. I still very much prefer the instruments to be lit when the exterior lights are turned on because it is a very obvious signal when the whole instruments are dark, which means exterior lights are not turned on.

Somehow, DRL are not very useful during daytime here. But can be very useful for those who unknowingly didn't on the exterior lights at night. At least other road users can see them from the mirrors.

plenty of times... sometimes 1 spoil, sometime both spoil left the 3rd brake light.

Once had encountered a weird case, press brake all light up. no press brake the lights were blinking... hahaha faulty connection somewhere.

just dont tailgate. so will always have enough reaction time.
