Coney Island will open on Oct 10 to the public

i went to this island a few times many years ago... canoe or raft there n camp overnight. Never knew it was closed to public... maybe it was closed when they started the land reclamation?

Known for its natural, rustic charm, Coney Island will open on Oct 10 to the public, the National Parks Board (NParks) said today (Sept 3).

The 45ha island, which is also known as Pulau Serangoon, is located off the north-eastern coast of Singa­pore.

 

It will open at 10am on October 10.

NParks is looking for volunteers to conduct guided walks and other activities such as bird-watching for the public on the day of the opening and the year-end school holidays.

The agency will hold training sessions for volunteers, during which they will learn about the flora and fauna of the island. The island, which is located off Punggol, is known as a stop for migratory birds.

Tender documents released last year revealed that infrastructure on Coney Island includes a bird-watching station, walkways, and solar street lights.

According to the master plan by the Urban Redevelopment Authority, a part of Coney Island is zoned for residential, sport, and recreational use.

When young I canoe to the mosquito infested island before during outwardbound school. I think now it's very different. The Npark has even build link-bridges on both ends to the island. See Google maps.

It says part of the coney island is zoned for residential? Are they building BTO there or similar like sentosa cove?

Last time used to canoe from Sembawang to Coney Island. At that time really got nothing except trees and sand.

This island is a strategic place for SAF. Since it has a bridge, more accessible for heavy equipment.

A good place to boating, swim and setting net for crabs.

Like to revisit my training ground.

in the 80s saf uses it for coastal training, public was allowed to go there if they had means to cross the sea. When Connie was linked to the mainland it became a prohibited island for SAF use. Nice place but quiet eerie at night. Last time when i was schooling Connie island was the place to go for picnic!

I can't wait for this. it will be so nice to walk throguh nature to de stress and it's so close to my place.
