In 2008-2009 financial criss

Olivier Blanchard, IMF Chief Economist, stated that the percentage of workers laid off for long stints has been rising with each downturn for decades but the figures have surged this time. "Long-term unemployment is alarmingly high: in the United States, half the unemployed have been out of work for over six months, something we have not seen since the Great Depression." The IMF also stated that a link between rising inequality within Western economies and deflating demand may exist. The last time that the wealth gap reached such skewed extremes was in 19281929.[222]

Not the stock market itself unless you work in the financial industry. However, the economic slowdown will affect companies with large exposure to China. Ie manufacturing, property development, transport, services. Most of them have been weakening over the past 6 months, this may push them over the tip.

The catalyst this time is not as clear. Stock market bloodbath doesn't mean economy is tanking.

My take, not too long ago DBS and OCBC announced some stellar results. 1 month later their stock price is down more than 10%. Did they suddenly lose all their business in a month? Stock market is a voting machine in the short run.

actually some companies are benefiting from RMB devalue. my company for example has some business with china but we sell in

USD. thus the devalue allow us to make more money. some companies are benefiting from this. unless we have the statistic else cant say eocnomy is bad.
