Clement 2nd Gear August 14, 2015 Share August 14, 2015 Driving a Nissan Sylphy. Lately I noticed a vibrating noise coming from the engine at low revs (intermittent) whenever the air-con is switched on. At higher revs, the vibrating noise disappears. Without the air-con switched on, there is no vibrating noise heard. Any idea what could be the problem? Is it serious? Car COE is expiring in May 2016, so I don't want to spend too much money on it. ↡ Advertisement
Xers007 Supercharged August 14, 2015 Share August 14, 2015 most probably is the engine mounting goner.
Crashburner 3rd Gear August 14, 2015 Share August 14, 2015 yup...most likely is the engine mounting issue. I am facing the same problem too...11 year old Audi A4....when car stop with engine running and air-con on, it will cause vibrating noise. Once the car starts moving, then no noise. Mechanic says its engine mounting issue...ask me no need to waste money to fix until more issues happen. he says nothing will happened. I will probably trust his advice since I brought it back to Audi to check
Clement 2nd Gear June 27, 2016 Author Share June 27, 2016 To close this thread properly, think I should explain what happened. I have since scrapped the car but the information may be useful to others. The AD service tech sat in the car with me, and we drove around the basement car park. Straight away, after hearing the noise he said that my alternator bearings are gone! Left the car at workshop for a few hours for proper diagnosis. OK, so what do I do, the AD gave me a quote and it is quite expensive. Since I got only < 6 months to go before scrap, he told me not worth it to repair. Tech said battery charging is still alright, only bearing is worn out, so noisier than usual. He suggested that I monitor and not do anything. That was what I did, no problems, other than the alternator bearing noise. Car was scrapped in end-April 2016. End of problem! ↡ Advertisement
