Ender Hypersonic August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 Possible, as most of the stuff that are supposely tax free are actually alot more expensive inside the airport. Is the saving passed on to us? I have my doubt.
Wt_know Hypersonic August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 (edited) why buy in airport knowing the prices are higher? to sporean there is no incentive to buy in changi airport ... for international traveller may be because their home country is more expensive or scare of fake goods (perfect buying opportunity for PRC) Possible, as most of the stuff that are supposely tax free are actually alot more expensive inside the airport. Is the saving passed on to us? I have my doubt. Edited August 11, 2015 by Wt_know

Vid Hypersonic August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 Never really buy anything at airport. None of them cheap. Can get cheaper elsewhere.
Neost 6th Gear August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 I usually buy a book to read onboard from the bookshop in Changi airport. It also serves as a memento for my travel be it for business or leisure.
Watwheels Supersonic August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 Ppl there are angry bcoz the shops use the boarding pass info to offset the GST/VAT but savings are not passed down to the consumers. I think here in Singapore shops will just mark up the price anyway to make more profit.
Icedbs Turbocharged August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 I find the stuff inside the travelers area (changi) are indeed cheaper.

And a lot of the profits goes to landlords.
Benarsenal Turbocharged August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 First off, the only things inside airport that has real savings are those that incur large duties outside, like alcohol and tobacco. Everything else, it's only 7% GST, which to be honest is not a lot anyway. So of course you will find that the prices is more or less similar.
Joseph22 Turbocharged August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 Airport rental are usually high.. I believe It's even higher in Singapore compare to other part of Singapore. So I think it's hard to compare.
Myxilplix Turbocharged August 11, 2015 Share August 11, 2015 I'll pick up stuff at the airport since it's convenient. The usual is t-shirts and socks from Giordano, books and stationery from the bookstores, sometimes duty-free on the way back if my trip is longer than 48hrs. The last "big ticket" item I got was a Targus backpack to replace my old Targus (which was also bought at the airport). More convenient since I have to be at the airport anyway.
