"I have to say Fellaini was one of the best players on the pitch," Van Gaal proclaimed after the defeat - cue social media eruption in amazement.

One of the Best Players on the pitch??!!!  The Red social media rates him (Fellani)just fractionally above Carrick and Depay at a poor of 3/10.

He (LvG) either has the darkest sense of humor or suffers from hallucination and/or insanity

Fellani is useful when MU pump long balls forwards, draws defenders to make space for others. But to achieve that, the team must be able take (some kind) of control and possession, which was non existent. He got one chance of "almost free" header in the box and headed wide. Other than that, he did little else but went round poking people's backsides. LvG told the players to get horny, didn't he.

You are right on the keeping possession part after Fellaini received the long balls. Can't fault him when his teammates weren't able to latch on his knocked down or find space to receive the pass. Last game Can and Hendo did very well in controlling the midfield by going strong on Fellaini. Even when they lose the aerial duels, they make sure he doesn't have the time on the ball to distribute.

Tactically, LvG tried to change by taking out Rashford and throw in Carrick so that they can push Blind up into midfield to try to gain back control. The idea I think is right which saw Man Utd improving in the second half but the choice of sub looks odd. Carrick best candidate to play CB? He is to blame for Pool second goal.

Anyway, job half done for Pool only. I expect a response for Man Utd at OT.

For Dortmund this uefa cup is the only way to have a reunion with klopp :D

I hope to meet them in Final if we can make it that far. :D

Despite LvG's claim that he hasn't lost the dressing room, I can't think of any other reason why most of the players on the pitch could put up such an inept performance. Couldn't string more than 3 passes together, no desire to fight for the ball.

Schole commented " what were they trying to do on the pitch, I've absolutely no idea "

To many MU fans, this season is already a write off. Whether or not to write off next season as well depends on if the no balls hierachy can right what is horribly wrong now.

Let's see how it goes. No matter how bad was their performance this season, Man Utd are still 6th in table, within touching distance from 4th with 9 games to go. Still in the running for 2 cup competitions as well.

LvG will be axed if failed to meet target. They didn't even give the Chosen One face, so I don't believe LvG will get a preferential treatment.

The harder questions are: what is the next step? Who to take over the hot seat? Taking long term view by having Giggs? Or short term view by having Mourinho?

According to The Times, Conte's switch to Chelsea might be delayed due to his demand to bring 10 staff over with him.

Scary. Majiam mafia :D

Scholes was a pundit for last night game. Finding it hard to contain his frustration over had Man Utd had fallen, he dragged in Arsenal :D

Scholes:"The last thing I want for them[Man United] is to be happy with finishing 4th & winning the FA Cup. That's what Arsenal do every year"

Coincidentally, I read this article earlier today as well.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with the Chelsea squad in general so minor tweaks required only and not a major overhaul. I believe a good Manager should be able to sort this out easily.

That said, why they have spectacularly underperformed this season I'm not exactly sure. I can only speculate that a combination of poor pre-season preparation, JM's mishandling of the doctor issue which led to the squad split over his treatment of an important member of the squad contributed to their demise. Also, perhaps his usual 3 year limit where he exhausts his team with his antics caught up with him as well. Anyway just my speculation.

The one player that has alarmingly gone downhill even with JM's departure has been Hazard. Totally no clue why he suddenly become so poor. At least Costa and Fabregas have upped their game.

Interesting times ahead at the Bridge.....

Two ex pros talked about Sakho over their Twitter accounts. Interesting views and descriptions :D

Sakho - Unorthodox, Efficient, Unbalance and effective

Echoed their views. Said before that Sakho is currently the best CB Pool has right now. Not without weakness but overall, he is reliable and not prone to mistakes. More importantly, comfortable on the ball and his passes usually are bold and breaking lines.

For those who watched the game last night would have spotted that whenever Pool recycle possession, it will be Sakho who will distribute from the back. Can offered support nearby in case he gets pressed.
