Hi bros,

Lets be constructive!

if u allow me to voice my humble opinion, trying to be objective, am not  related to both PI or Agent.

True that both sides have its strength and weakness

my suggestion is choose which one (PI or Agent/KM) depends on what you really want

Factors to consider

1) Car colour : Agent - only limited colours (plain super white, grey, silver, black, orange brown), so if buyer want blue or yellow, have to buy from PI

2) Specs that agent do not have (comparing the higher specs PI version, not the lower one)

- pre crash

- auto high beam (different from auto headlamp)

- one touch sliding door (similar to latest alphard/vellfire) : if not mistaken agent one need to pull handle, no button (like old estima, old alphard)

- can choose your own headunit where  passengers can view DVD while in motion (can add on GPS, digital TV etc)

- can choose 6 seater

3) specs that PI do not have

- rear aircon/blower

- full steering wheel control?

- english version speedometer cluster and manual

- speedometer >180km/hr

- approved rear window (2nd and 3rd row) and rear glass/gate

(PI may have to replace such glasses for LTA approval, from my experience the replace glass may not be as good as original toyota quality, may not be evenly flush....)

and followed by the usual arguments abt peace of mind, warranty, scrupulous PI, deliver, recall etc

In my opinion, for agent, if possible get the Elegance model, and the PI at least G or hybrid model. Safest buy in SG of course from Agent but more and more people now demand certain specs, and hence have to go by PI route - but must really do your homework and do not just trust PI 100%, everything written in black and white (some agent SE too may not be fully truthful, and they are experienced enough to "read" the buyer).

Bro, I own a Sienta G from PI, not going to debate which is better as saying 'one man's meat is another man's poison'....

Just a minor correction to your point 3:

- PI Sienta G model do come with full steering control as long it is with Navi package (i.e. audio controls on the left of the steering wheel and factory fitted fish eye reverse cam). The controls on the right is for the 4.2" multi-function display on the meter cluster. While I do agree we have part Jap cluster and a Jap manual.

- Both the PI and BM Sienta has speedo max at 180km/h. That's also probably makes me scratching my head as other makes AD imported cars usually comes with a speedo at max 240km/h. This could be due the fact that the BM Sienta is made in Indonesia and it was decided somehow to keep the max at 180km/h for the speedo for those manufactured for asia market distributed by ADs. To me, it doesn't matter the max is 180km/h or 240km/h, as if we can drive at 200km/h everyday like that lol.

- My rear window is stock tinted LTA approved without replacement glass. I even had vkool for the rear windows and rear windscreen with higher percentage of visible light transmitted to be legal. Same for my ex ride (Airwave) even tinted darker.

Cheers!

How many here actually frequent Indonesia and sat on those best selling MPVs? The Sienta there got rear aircon and it's blowing cold air. Did BM disable that when it reached Singapore shores??? lol.

Indonesia may be a 3rd world country, but the vehicles made there are ok. Just BM price it too expensive and yes the 2nd row is very very cramp for 3 ppl to sit.

Contribute a bit here, as an extension of what i updated in the recall under PI warranty thread.

Am sure the bros here can decide whether the BM option or the PI option is better and more suitable for yourself.

Just a piece of advice for those buying from PIs:

Apart from all those lessons learnt from those who paid either deposit/full, and the trouble with the wordings of the bids/delivery date, etc. etc., you should try to get the PI to put down something concerning any future recalls should they take place.

Get the PI to mention that they will be responsible for any recalls for the vehicle, and any repairs/replacement arising from the recall(s) should be borne by them.

Toyota has quite a few recalls over the years. Not sure is it its products got more problems, or is it that it's more responsible than other manufacturers, and tend to come clean (while others keep quiet...).

Thats my point bro. There are many Agent cars out there with speedo max at 220km/h or 240km/h but with top speed lower den 180km/h. Gone were the days where we have cars such as the EG6 that can clear analog meter and needed to add a digital speedo to read. :)

Nope the PI Sienta does not have a tweeter grille. The BM Sienta has it on the front doors next to the door handles.

PI Sienta comes with 4 speakers. 2 on front door and 2 on 3rd row.

As far as I know PI cars comes with cheapo so-called 'paper' speakers. Dunno it comes with built-in tweeters similar to those 3-way speakers or not which I doubt so. I didn't open to check or see as I kept my car stock. The sound is acceptable for me.

Both Avanza and Sienta offered by BM are from Indonesia.  They are different and same in the following ways:

(1) Exactly the same engine 2NR-FE.

(2) Avanza is FR (Front Engine Rear Wheel Drive) and Sienta is FF (Front Engine Front Wheel Drive).  Avanza has 2 gear boxes which when come to major service need to change 2 different types of gear oil (toyota T-4 for front and Hypoid oil for rear).  Sienta only needs to change the CVT oil (Toyota CVT).  FF is easier to drive than FR (remember the famous Mazda MX5 case).

(3) Avanza has rear drum brake and Sienta has rear disc brake.  Disc brake has better braking performance than Drum brake.  But Drum brake last longer than Disc brake.  Sport/Performance cars must have all Disc brake to ensure safety.

(4) Avanza is using 4 AT gear box (now even korean car also using 6/7 AT gear boxes).  Sienta is using CVT gear box.  Sienta has better fuel efficiency.

(5) Sienta has modern design, sliding doors and lightings.

Thus Avanza should cost much less than Sienta.

Let me add on a few points here as well

-  The Avanza is built off the super old and crude early 90s Daihatsu Extol delivery van. The chassis is NOT even a full unibody. The front is unibody but from mid point onwards its still the super old sch ladder frame chassis.Very truck like. Yes the setup will make the chassis super strong and rugged. But it also offers u a rugged and wobbly ride as well.

-   Becos of the ladder frame chassis, the Avanza will always looks like its riding on stilts becos of the ride height. Such height is welcomed if you are full fledged SUV eg Fortuner with big wheels.... But Toyota idea of dropping the ride height is to install tiny 14-15" wheels... and that a big nono

-  Avanza still uses an antique recirculating ball steering rack!. WTF, the setup is almost 100 yrs old and Toyota still have the guts to install it in their current offering. This is why you get zero steering feel in the Avanza. And u need to wind the LARGE steering wheel like mad before the front wheels started to turn. Drivers who exit from... say a late model FD Civic (or current FC Civic T) and into the Avanza will surely crash the car at the first turn.

 -  The super short 4AT gear ratios means that the engine spins at a dizzy 3600rpm at 100kmh at overdrive....

Does the new Sienta solves all these?

Does the new Sienta solves all these?

just sharing my exp after brief test drive last week -

- ride is reasonably comfortable on 15" alloys (test drive being standard model) do note turning radius is different for 15" & 16"; one at 5.3m & another 5.7m respectively

- if ladder chassis means riding on stilts, then i believe sienta is not this type, but it is 25mm higher than jdm sienta

- not sure what steering sienta was on, but didnt feel like i gotta turn alot; typical toyota car character - easy to handle

- current sienta on cvt wc i believe at 100kph will be around 2k rpm (even my current korean 4at "only" 2.5k rpm at 100kph)

avanza is one very backward tech model based on tractor / pickup.. bm should have nvr brought in this model. if i own avanza sure very hard to sell due to a backward model wc prev cost 120k at high coe era..

since on this topic of steering , just sharing..

ok back to sienta
