Neutral Newbie

Got the X9 today using the trade-in promo which this thread talked about. Paid $360 which includes installation. X9 image quality is good, given the old camera i was using before.

But i don't like the camera giving voiceover. Also, was told by installer that if never use the car for 3 days, the camera goes on recording, and it will rundown the car battery such that the car cannot start!

May I know if it is necessary to fix iroad battery pack for 24hr monitoring? Do I need to charge the battery pack every time?

Its auto charge by your car, whether to install its really up to individual...most of the camera will auto cut off after some few hours to prevent car battery drainage...

if you dont mind the hassle and process of getting your car repaired and the downtime after other cars hit and run you in a carpark ( please look up at the Hit and Run thread and refer to many videos of hit and runs on FB in carparks )  by all means dont install....

some really old cars of course no need bother.....

Thanks for your valuable input! Any idea if there is a good deal right now for dashcam and battery pack? Is there any bundle pricing?

Actually, even after the camera auto cut off to prevent car battery from being drain, the camera itself will still draw small current to keep on running the battery monitoring sensor. If you park for extended time without driving (maybe 1 to 2 weeks), chance is high that your car battery will be drain. Installing the iroad battery pack will pretend this as it'll not drain your car battery since the battery pack is only being charge when your car engine is on.

you can try Iroad or Thinkware brands...you may want to drive to the respective authorised dealers for the cameras to work out a deal with them, personally im using Thinkware with Iroad battery....

good thing about thinkware cameras is they warn you where red light cameras or speed cameras are located....

you are right, with the battery pack installed, it extends your car battery life as the camera draws power from the battery pack itself....

( without battery pack, camera runs for few hours only, drawing power from car battery might cause your car cannot start next day if your car battery is old )

(with battery pack, camera runs 24hrs or more depends on the pack size, does not stress your car battery, does not cause your car cannot start the next day)

Still boils down to individual decisions

Took my V9 to the Corvit office as the speaker is gonna KO soon. They replaced it within like 5 mins and get you to connect and check before you leave. Good service from iRoad.

My hyundai dashcam costing me $40 has finally packed up after almost 7 years. The dashcam has served me well to provide evidence for 2 accidents. Planning to get Safevue F178 for $60, heard it is cheap and reliable and FHD, any comments?

anyone here keen on a iroad power pack plus?

the bigger capacity one?

I have one to let go after dekitting.

Like to ask your feedback: Actually how well did the power pack serve you? The cam draw power from the power pack, and the power pack is in turn charged by the car right?

Weekdays, if i drive short distances (only 10-15 min max) going to lunch, and later back to office, as well as end of the day back home from office, is there enough time for the car to charge up the power pack?

I do drive for maybe up to an hour in the mornings for my school runs. But even if can charge full in the morning, will the power pack be depleted if i go on parking mode? The rest of the day's driving pattern is what I mentioned above...

Tks.

iRoad got some trade-in promo going on which will end this week, if you have an old set of 2-ch cam.

- X9 for $360

- TX9 for $450

Go find out what kind of battery does your car uses.  If it's not EFB or the even better AGM, you might want to consider upgrading it to one.

I get impressively long parking mode time from my stock EFB battery.

The power pack is a consumable too, just like car battery you need to change once every 2 or 3 years.  I think the EFB kind of batteries costs about the same as the powerpack (you don't get a fancy app to control your car battery though)?  It might make more sense for you to upgrade your car battery once and for all.

Cheers.

Wah thanks. But I'm not sure what batt i'm using leh... It came with the car when i collected it from AD. Supposedly got 2 yr warranty for the batt. I suspect it's not a super good one bah, the manufacturer sure wanna save costs...

But back to my question, if i only drive long(er) once in the morning, and then midday and after work is short distance only, will that be enough to charge up any power pack? Or will the power pack be only partially charged when i drive short (<5 km) distance?

I got a suggestion, get a spare high res handphone, download a good dashcam app and use that for overnight and daytime recording. After each trip in the day with no incident, just delete each video to save space. No wiring n no hassle. Sell the car can still continue using the spare phone as spare phone. Think many people switching to using phone for dashcam.
