elmoguy 2nd Gear December 3, 2015 Share December 3, 2015 Retailing at 490(not forgetting it's a 2ch FHD DVR). My advise is to buy it when they are doing roadshow during itshow, sitex or pc show.... will be cheaper... I never use thinkware before so can't comment.... but iRoad cam is worth every penny. it serves me well up till now. No regrets... My understanding is that ThinkWare software is not great and giving user a lot of problem. Moreover ThinkWare is much more expensive. Ended up I got V9. I also noted that people commented overheating in BlackVue, V9 etc, not sure if this is true. Anyone here faced any problem with V9 so far? Thanks. ↡ Advertisement

Ended up I got V9. I also noted that people commented overheating in BlackVue, V9 etc, not sure if this is true. Anyone here faced any problem with V9 so far? Thanks. the overheating is mainly due to WiFi. For V9, I didn't plug the WiFi dongle in unless wanna view recorded video, hence no issue of heat at all even when the cam is in 24 hours. For blackvue, I believe the heating issue is bec the wifi us integrated in the cam.. no option to remove WiFi dongle at all. Anyway I personally prefers not to have radio frequency 50cm from my head every time I'm driving. Hence V9 is better in this aspect.

I came across this article mentioning that Mazda battery was killed by iRoad V7: http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2692429-2014-mazda-3/page-375 My understanding from workshop technician is that as long as you keep your car running on a daily basis, you will not face this issue. Moreover there's a setting in iRoad V9 to stop the recording when the Voltage falls below certain value. I just wondering how is it possible to kill the battery when you have already set your lower limit? Anyone can advise? Thanks.
Woodstockht Clutched December 3, 2015 Share December 3, 2015 (edited) I was told by my workshop to unplug the power cable to the camera every time before I remove the SD card. I only off my engine, removed the old sd card and inserted the new one. Seems to work for me. Btw, it's micro SD, in case you are buying an upgrade and didn't realise. When I got mine installed at sitex, installer told me he set the voltage to 11.8v for my drive. So could this be a case where setting was not right? I noted on your comment on "5 days you never drive the car, battery can't start". My friend who is using V7 encountered that battery can't start from spending 5 days oversea leaving the car back home. Does this mean that the voltage setting to cut off recording is useless? However, i suspect that as 1 br pointed out that maybe is the dongle which is taking up the electricity even if the camera stops recording. You can try to experiment if by taking out the wifi dongle will help. but, personally, for me, i will just plug out the power cable if i know i won't be driving for more than 5 days. just to play safe. Spritzer Clutched December 6, 2015 Share December 6, 2015 Hi all, I've been using the iRoad v7 for about one month. The experience has been less than satisfactory. There are 4 main issues/questions that I've listed below for fellow users' advice pls. 1. I prefer for camera to start recording only when motion is detected when the car is parked. Do I set parking mode to off and motion detection to on? But I'm unable to do that via the WiFi app cos both are linked. Also, how different is parking mode from normal recording if motion detection is not on?2. When car is parked, at parking mode, the camera keeps recording non stop. Sometimes the normal drive recording mode kicks in even when engine is off. I checked back the overnight video clips and noticed that frequently, the parking mode is ended for no reason (while the car is being parked) and that automatically triggers the normal drive recording mode on. Then it can switch in and out of parking and normal drive recording modes throughout the parked duration for no apparent reason. This results in full recording of the parked duration. Furthermore, this zaps the car batt significantly cos engine is not on, and before the next morning, the camera is shut off as low voltage cutoff is set. My car is only 1 mth old and offline voltage ever since installing v7 has dropped from 12.9 to 12.4v. Can't imagine the damage it will do to the car batt over long term.3. Following from point 2, if system is still on normal drive record mode when engine is started, u won't hear the doorbell chime and greeting msg of "driving mode recording. Safe driving" because it has been activated before u started the engine. I also realise this welcome msg sometimes only kick in 1 or 2 min after engine is started. I thought the system is designed to recover and enter into parking modes based on engine ignition? So once engine is on, the normal drive recording mode activates and once engine is cut, it deactivates and the parking mode starts? There was once when i was driving halfway and stopping at a traffic junction and suddenly the camera activates the door chime and welcome msg - meaning the camera was still in parking mode when I started the engine and began driving, and the system only realises and recovers itself halfway during the drive.4. The WiFi connectivity (while watching clips and changing system settings) tends to drop frequently, though switching off your mobile data seem to help. Is this normal and inherent? My installer apparently claims it is normal with Android phones and there won't be such WiFi drops on Apple phones. He advised to off the mobile data function while connecting the WiFi which seemed to improve the drop rates, but I still feel not acceptable. To the above problems, I have tried updating to latest firmware, rebooting frequently (almost every 2 days), plug out unplug etc, but it didn't help. Frustrating! Any advice or comments are greatly welcomed pls. Thanks!

Thanks! bro,i am on V7 for almost a year. and only recently encounter scenarios such as yours. and all i did is change a new micro sd instead of the IRoad one, which is a freebie when i bought from the Sitex last year. eversince i changed a new microsd, so far no more such issue. i always set on parking mode.only once,i itchy hands, set to motion.and is a nightmare.cos that is the 1st time my unit kinda shut down and spoilt. then i realised that when u set to motion.the unit is damn sensitive to capture EVERY SINGLE MOVEMENT passed by it. and that time i parked in the front row at Airport T3. imagine how "busy" the unit worked until heated up max. now my challenge is no sure,if i not driving for around 5 days, will it kill my car battery or not. dun really dare to try. so am thinking to go unplug the power source....much safer.but then, will mean i can't record any *touchwood* hit and run (if it happens). so a bit of dilemma.... V9 user here. I set to parking mode and motion. Sensitivity is medium. There will be recording as long as any vehicle passed by mine. So far so good. You may want to set the sensitivity to low. If you are not driving for 5 days, it is better to unplug as my friend who is using V7 had his battery total flat after he came back from holiday. When I got my V9, the recording while driving on the road is ON and OFF. I did troubleshooting and realised that it is not camera issue but the cable connector is faulty. Hence, when I use force to push the connector, it will be POWER ON and when I released it, it will POWER OFF.

My friend bought a power bank instead to address this issue. It will be good if you travel to oversea frequently, else too much gadget makes the vehicle untidy. Item 4: I don't face this issue with my Samsung Note Edge. In fact, my installer told me that Apple iPhone is not so user friendly as compared to Android. Are you using Samsung S6? He told me that some Android phone will have some issue? Apart from that, do you install junk ware in your phone? It is good to use another phone to test on the Wi-Fi connectivity to confirm this. Hopes this help but that's my assumption.
Mavwong 2nd Gear December 7, 2015 Share December 7, 2015 I am V9 user as well. In short not happy, it draw a lot of power and it's hot! Try touching the metal connector to the rear cam and see if you can hang on for more than 5sec. That's even with the wifi dougle unplug. Few advice for follow V9 user. 1) do not remove sd card without powering down! it will corrupt the sd card 2) being said that, there's no power button on v9, you need to remove the power jack to power it down. 3) The software do not transcode to standard video format in PIP (ie, front video with small video of rear channel). 4) standard setting by most installer will set to stutdown at 12V, that's too low, I set it to 12.3V but it couldn't last for 24hr recording. That tells how much power it draws. This is true even for a fresh new battery from Amaron (46Ah) 5) Yes, pls install a switch so you can off it easily, plug un plug the jack is troublesom and might cause the jack to loose over time. I didn't do it last time round and now I regret.
