GUIDE TO FIXING THE iROAD V9S2 FOGGY/HALO EFFECT VER 2.0

I previously did a guide on how to fix the foggy/halo effect on the iRoad V9S2. The problem recently came back for me and since I was taking the V9 apart again, I decided to update my guide with some photos.

Do refer to my previous guide for my speculations on why the recordings get foggy after sometime, hopefully it not being CMOS sensor or other hardware/electronic related fault.

DISCLAIMER: *DO NOTE YOU MAY VOID YOUR WARRANTY IF YOU DECIDE TO OPEN UP YOUR V9*.

This is the iRoad V9S2:

Body.thumb.jpg.610184b0fd0f6ad2ad36df7c97576f41.jpg

1. There are 3 plastic catches to undo -

Bottom: #1 & #2

Top: #3

You may want to use a rubber tipped tool to push the catches to prevent scratches to the camera body and/or catches.

2. This is how the 5 catches look like once you have the casing opened. I find it easier to push in #1 and #2 first as the bottom of the camera case will pop open. Slowly push the back piece upwards to undo #3 as well as the 2 concealed catches inside (A & B in the photo above). Be gentle as the plastic of the case may be weakened due to exposure to sun and heat.

Internal.thumb.jpg.e925f1feea1e1d9cff46281b89a35950.jpg

3. You can see the CMOS sensor module (D), timekeeping battery (C) and speaker connector to the main circuit board (E). The circuit board is attached to the rear casing piece. It is not necessary to detach the speaker’s wire plug from the main board and be careful not to damage the connections.

Module.thumb.jpg.07801a7ff0928d70eec6a3132a5c2431.jpg

4. Remove the sensor module by holding on the lens body (the black coloured portion of the module) and gently wiggling . The entire module should come off easily.

1815875292_Modulescrews.thumb.jpg.3f42e4660aa139dea648da9bdef17aa2.jpg

5. On the rear, you can see the lens body is attached to the module by 2 small black Phillips screws.

365873643_Moduleopen.thumb.jpg.19b58a1410ac884fc74aed6676524e73.jpg

6. Unscrew the lens body (G) from the module (gently!) and separate the lens body from the sensor module. Below the lens, you can see the CMOS sensor itself (H). DO NOT TOUCH IT unless you are very sure you know what you are doing as it is very very easy to damage.

2110048581_Moduleclean.thumb.jpg.fe467a5012900d273c4b78490605fc9a.jpg

7. Now have a look at the inner lens (G) of the lens body. Depending on the severity of your “halo” problem, you may be able to see a layer of smudge on the inner lens. Using a dry cotton bud swab, gently clean the portion shown in this photo.

8. If you are not satisfied with the cleanliness, breathe on the lens (open your mouth and exhale with the “horrr” sound onto the lens) and use the cotton swab to rub off the vapour condensate. I did not try cleaning with any solvents (medicinal alcohol, glass cleaner etc) and if you would like to try, it would be at your own risk.

9. Screw back the lens body onto the sensor module and attach the module via the small plug back to the main board. Gently snap back the 5 catches (2 hidden, 3 overt) to close back your camera unit and reattach it back to the mounting in your car.

10. If all went well, your unit will power up with no problems and you can now do a live view using the app on your phone to see the results of your cleaning.

On a related note, I discovered I am unable to remove the V9's timekeeping battery even though it is a CR size type. It appeared to me that the battery is soldered/glued to the metal guide that holds the battery in position. If someone can advise on how to remove the battery, I would be most thankful.

I have been using Q9 on on previous car for 4+ years.

Now change car also use back the same cam..just bought cable from Corvit and do up the current car.....

Still going well....

Maybe I didn't park under direct sunlight most of the time.

If got issue maybe just switch to X9.

Yes. I tried a Huwei 128GB card and it gives the same message. The original 32GB iRoad card works well. My dealer said its the card. But a Sandisk!

I think this is a problem with the system as the cards are basically all the same and are formatted by the system anyway.

Did you get an answer?

Hi, my IROAD v9 does not record upon car/engine start and will only start recording when I connect it to the iroad app on mobile phone.

Tried changing some of the setting in the iroad app but it didn’t seem to help...

Not sure what is the problem and wanted to check if anyone is facing the same issue, and how do you resolve this?

since it was installed recently, perhaps u can chk with the installer. Didn't they chk at the time of installation?

otherwise u can go to iroad service center at Ubi - I found them to be pretty helpful. Or just pm them on their facebook to ask.

Go to their service centre if warranty already expired. I remembered they have the one to one exchange scheme something along that line. Go check it out.

yes my X9 conked out after 14 or 15 months and they had a one-to-one exchange with a small top up.

Thanks brother, it works. And I did it with the rear camera as well.

After cleaning with the cotton bud, I still can see that the len is coated with a layer condensate. So I use some solvent to clean it.

Many thanks.

@Shibadog thank you for the info.  I have contacted them recently for general guidance on how to use my X10 (not for warranty) and have found them to be very responsive on facebook and they seem knowledgeable and transparent about the product.
