If I saw a prostitute on the streets I couldn't tell.

All I see is a hard working filial daughter taking a break from her hard work to send money home to her family.

My main beef is that the picture is done by an American…

street art by the virtue that is it in a public space, everybody who passes by will see it, should be a reflection of local singaporean artists. 

Everyone reacts to art differently, my first look I thought this samsui women looks different, more westernised, more sultry. Then I look at the artist….

I am very pro ft in general because of my work in tech, but I thought street art 99% are local… who hires a foreign artist to paint their city??

Lots of foreign (graffiti) artists would be thrilled to get the chance to paint the walls for free. As long as we don't prosecute them for vandalism later

Colonial mentality still exists lah....

Probably arts students in local institutions can do a better job catering to local cultural acceptance and taste.

You can’t cater to everyone taste but if the artist is local, at least his/her artistic interpretation is part of singaporean culture, so I can close one eye.
