Why MRT don't have single Child concession ticket?

Back to Singapore for 2 days. Took my children to take the MRT. To my surprised and horror, I can't buy stored value concession tickets for them because only Singapore students can buy or children under 7 + under 0.9m can buy. If I want to buy, have to go to transit link ticket office (which not all stations has) with their passports to apply.

Then I went to those ticket machines to buy single trip. Another BIG shock next. There is NO children ticket to buy. All standard fare.

WTF is that? I have NEVER travelled to a place where there is NO concession ticket for children. Why is Singapore transport like that? <_<[mad]:a-t9412:

So until now, I haven't got my children the tickets because the ticket office when I passed by was not opened. Only open after 12pm and then close sometime midday and open a few hours next. :TT_TT:

Just ranting... Not a major issue but don't think it's fair for tourists. And my children are Singaporeans.... End up I take taxi better since they are charged adult fares.

Supercharged

I was in the same situation as you last Sat at a LRT station, as I brought my child out, and so happens her student MRT card is very low value (till can't enter), and the machine had some fault and does not accept cash (didn't bring my ATM card).

So in the end I bought a single concession adult ticket for her to travel to the nearest MRT station, and then went to the Control Station to top-up the student card. [:(]

Welcome to Singapore. Where children can be charged for putting up a video and thrown into jail and mental hospital. What other concession can we expect? Just concession for not disturbing our children life further. I hope...

Did not know there is no children concession ticket. So if have not started school, children is free travel?

But I think even australia must have student card if want to use concession, but all station can buy the ticket.

Twincharged

Maybe got people abuse the system buying child ticket for adult.

Less policing means saving cost.

MRT is treading a fine line managing costs plus expectations of minimised down time.

"World class" mah. LoL...

Write in and ask them why "world class" transport like that one?

Maybe they will reply, "world clas" was yesterday, now is "world most expensive". Haha...

Child 7 and under 7 travel FREE!

In their website only children under the height of 0.9m travel for free provided he/she is accompanied with a fare paying adult. Very specific.

Unless the child is extremely undernourished, where got children 4-6yo is still under 0.9m height?

thought new "law" is 7 and below, free. That's why we didn't apply concession card for our younger daughter. Of course understand the logic of being accompanied by adults 'cos if no need to, it's considered self-loading cargo, meaning the child can self-load, as like an adult.

If take bus have children price cos the driver can see, not for mrt.

All ezlink has to be registered, adult or children hence the one way ticket will not have children fare.

hahaha.....that was the very old law during sbs era. I still remember when my son was below 7 but was a bit taller than the specified height restriction....actually he was shorter than most of his classmates in primary school.......but we still had to pay adult fare for his train ride. There was even a green line showing children exceeding the height of the line must pay full fare! Edited by Eviilusion
