The several factors includes the car, engine oil used, driving style and usage pattern.

For myself,  different car, different engine oil, almost the same style and usage pattern, the engine oil last about 7k.

I am driving a 9 year toyota fielder(wagon version of toyota axio),35k mileage(previously opc)

Already converted the car to normal drive, and intending to do Grabcar in 1 months time

I am a light footed driver, always drive around 1k plus to 2.1k rpm, using castrol edge titanium 5w-40

For your car, usage, driving style and oil used, change every 10k will do.

Given the average mileage most Grabcar drivers can hit, you're going to be changing oil every month if you use 5k intervals  [laugh]

The Fantastic Kia Carens UN .... heeee

Anyway, if you really really really want to be sure, you may want to an oil analysis for your EO and ATF.

The results show tens of type of compound like higher water ppm in EO means there could be a radiator leak or iron means higher wear and tear in gear.

I actually prepared an EO sample to be shipped to US for analysis but got rejected by singpost.  Maybe hand carry if I happened to drop by US lor.

In Singapore, there is actually a test lab in Little Road which do that ASL Engineering or something.  Goto HWZ to find out if interested.  Cost about S$80.

My US Lab cost USD20 lor...

For me, $80 for a 30K decision, NO, USD 20 OK lor...

Nice, may i know what car are you driving?

I've sent quite a few samples to Blackstone from both Hong Kong and Singapore successfully. Usually declare simply as "Automotive sample", and include the letter stating that engine oil isn't banned by US postal service which you can find on Blackstone's website.

Lol, no worries. I'm a strong believer of the saying that the only stupid question is the one which is never asked  [laugh]

Generally,

mineral oil - 5k

synthetic oil - 10k

But there are so many factors and so many types of oil, it makes your head spin.

The service centre guys advised me not to use synthetic oil for 1k, 5k serving quoting it is not good for new engine as synthetic oil is thick as compare to mineral oil. This is somewhat contradicting to what I knew for old car which I did synthetic since 1k....

Any truth in there?

No such thing.

The oil is graded by viscocity, be it mineral or synthetic.

Mineral tend to be less stout and breakdown faster than synthetic.

However, some people use mineral as a "cleaning" oil to change out faster.
