Gun Shot Fired At Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

Why cannot criticise? If the guy is so big and strong then they should have taken better precautions and not left him with just one officer.

Also, was he not restrained? Our famous Amos yee was handcuffed and shackled at the legs with 5-6 guards escorting him as he is some triad boss with his gang waiting to break him free. If this is the SOP for a keyboard warrior, then why was the SOP for this fellow so different?

What crime was he caught for anyway? I don't think a simple shoplifter would have been desperate enough to do something like this.

Please remember that our policemen are paid to encounter dangers like this. Yes, it would have been sad if he had been badly injured or killed but it would be even sadder if innocent bystanders had died due to our SPF's incompetence and negligence.

There should be one but it probably sucks. As a "certified" auxiliary close combat instructor in the army, I can say this is all wayang and will not work in real life situations

the poor kid may just be a NSF leh...

.. Don't like this say leh. We do not know the full details yet. Maybe the 24yr old guy is a black belt taekwondo. And yes police officer do receive training on defence skills, but they are not invincible leh.

So we should pray hard that the police officer to have a speedy recovery instead of criticise him.

not criticise him but my prayer do go out to him in my prayer.

coming back, i saw how prisoners escorted in handcuffs and shackled from top to bottom and it would be really surprising if he still cannot be restrained and was the proper protocol put in place and too much of a complacency ???

they are after all police man and not just civilian. There are duties and responsibilities expected of them.

Faking chest pains could mean removal of handcuffs even for dangerous criminals.

It is always possible to find loopholes and exploit them.

Most important takeaway is to have the sense of danger.

Confirm going to the gallows liao. Thank God no other people got hurt.

Yup, going to gallows.. It's premeditated discharge of firearms to facilitate escape from custody..

Many points to question on spf sop.

1. Why suspect not handcuffed behind at all times

2. 1 policeman left the other one alone, with free handed suspect, in public area - no restraint on suspect facing only one police

3. Why baton is so easy taken

4. Pistol not secured enough to prevent effortless access.. What's the use of the lanyard?

5. Suspect fired 3 shots, shoot to kill to escape? Heng is bo bo shooter, or else policeman will have state funeral

6. With 2 more rounds in pistol, and in busy public area, would have ended with hostage taking situation in ktph. Then what?

7. Chest pains is excuse for suspect to find ways to escape.. Shooting is the trigger..

8. Suspect is foreigner? I think no sinkie have the balls to hammer police to escape, let alone fire 3 shots to kill n run...

Is lucky the policeman not killed and no other public lives endangered by this sop..

Must review spf sop for handling suspects in public areas, and the securing of policeman arms..many many questions to answer by govt, n to reassure public safety. Otherwise, all police actions are relegated to wayang..

if restraint in this way, unlikely able to grab baton / pistol ( illustrative only ..... haha ) [laugh]

I also believe the cop could have been swayed by the ''acting' and did the humane thing - removed the prisoner's restraints so that he can have a proper check up.

Also lucky that the doctor or nurse inside the room not in line of fire.

I do believe the stds are adequate, its the people n sop not measuring up..

If we're to dumb down the stds just to get people to fill in, then we're just fooling ourselves n setting us up for failure..which in this case will hv dangerous consequences..

Hv to review the trg n sop of the cops to prevent a recurrence..

Complacency and off guard. Hopefully our MIB shd take this lesson and learn to be on full balls when handling whoever criminal is.

Looks like the SPF PR has abit of damage control to do, recent incidents have really tarnish our crime fighting force reputation.

It's not easy to be civil servants in modern days I imagine.

If the criminal really dies of heart attack or some chest related stuff, there will be huge uproar and PR nightmare over why a dying criminal is not allowed to be released from handcuffs. We always make the best decisions after analyzing what happened.

But really need to examine the SOP carefully to prevent relapse. For example having a standby cop with weapon while the main cop handling is generally weaponless?
