Proper way to power down a car? (automatic transmission)

I feel not on slope also need to pull handbrake. Cuz although its not a slope but the ground might not be perfectly level so the car can still roll forwards or backwards putting alot of strain on the parking pawl.

 

I had a friend whose P gear not working cuz the car still can roll even in P. Before his P gear stopped working, he has a habit of not pulling handbrake unless on slope. I remember it clearly cuz when I borrowed his car, he kept emphasizing to me must pull handbrake cuz his P gear not working already.

Those koyak below 5yrs should be genetic defect, very likely not related to how it was being handled.. But can still share if you want (except that one obvious model which everybody knows, no need to share..)

 

Those above 10yrs should be wear and tear, not a good reflective of handling style...

My old car gb kaput after 7.5 years used. Every morning I needed to start engine and waited for 5 mins for the engine to warmed up before I can move off. If I stopped my car for more than 4 hours, I again need to wait for 5 mins. Finally I spent $3,500 to overhaul the gb.

I put to N after stopping. Apply parking brake. Off engine. Remove key and leave car.

 

Find that sometimes after putting to P when parking the car, the car jerks a bit when D is engaged again, with a bit of knocking sound. Old GB.

Errr.... Warming up engine or not before moving off got nothing to do with gb leh... What is your sop with gb handling before engine cut off ?

Is as per normal, put to P, off air-con, pull hand brake and then off the engine. I went to AD and the Techincal Advisor said gb needed replaced which required $12k. So he told me went outside to get overhaul which is much much cheaper.

I think this is much ado about nothing. No matter which method you used to turn off I think the wear on the gearbox is so insignificant compared to when the gearbox is actually in use like hard acc or deceleration especially when the mechanism is still has not warmed up.
