Mine can't off in D.

All cars engine can shut down in "D",it is only after shutting down,a buzzer will warn you shift to "P".

but this is start stop system.... when you say auto off in 'D', you mean with the parking brake on, the car sitting still for 10 mins shut down??

Footbrake, engine will "stop",release the brake engine will start again.

then this is just start-stop eco system... it's got nothing to do with shutting the car down for parking

Haha, thank god, we do not have many females here, otherwise, they will add some more steps like

Apply brake, check if lipstick is okay

Move to P, apply lipstick

blah blah

Many people got so many steps [dizzy][sweatdrop]

I know many women drive without shoes so they definitely got more steps. Wear shoes, adjust dress and bra, put lipsticks, check eyeliner... ... [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

Mine can't. Not even in N. If press start/stop button, a warning message will tell me to shift to P.

It is only possible if key fob is plug in.

I stop

put to P mode

turn off engine and

open car door all done within 3-5 seconds..

I don't use handbrake unless park on slopy lot.. been doing this all the time and my latio 4at gb still working strong after more than 8yrs..

so what those put N, then P then what what what are craps to me... Just like I don't believe in run in for any new car... .Hehehe..

Yes me too. Never use hand brake unless on slope. My angmoh counterpart ask me why need to pull handbrake when on flat ground. he said in USA no body does that. P is for Park. you know as in park your car. ahahha. since then I don't do it anymore.

I think a few cars may have spring loaded lever that can return to park in emergency... but none will automatically do it.

There are car with "auto-hold" feature that will hold a car in place after a complete stop by using the parking brake automatically. Also functions as a hill-hold-hill-start-assist. These will auto release when you attempt to drive off.

However auto-hold is a convenience feature for traffic. It is not for parking.

Thanks for sharing. In fact i spent a few minutes of my life trying to find out what car has those features. More or less just air.

to cover their rears the car co.s generally avoid having fully autonomous features of this type... the new 7-series can park itself completely unattended though so maybe you will have it in future.

Generally auto-parking features only control steering, maybe braking, but you are supposed to still move the gear-lever and accelerator on your own. But I suppose in future, or if I were designing car, could allow the gear lever to move to P automatically when car detects a parking bay and is moved into it... or completes auto-parking... [confused]

on a level ground, when the car has come to a complete stop, put into P, and release the brake pedal gently. the car will usually rock a little forward or backward, as the parking pawl catches the parking gear completely and sits snugly in the valley. then apply parking brake.

Parking_Pawl.jpg

my theory is that the car should be at rest without any internal forces trying to move the car in either direction. if you apply the parking brake too quickly, the parking pawl may be halfway into the valley, and there would be some forces still exerting between the pawl and the gear, which remains active throughout the parking period. doesn't seem ideal.
