I keep saying hiring a foreigner nowadays is not cheap. To hire a "S" pass, min S$2500 thereabout. Plus levy and it will cost a company close to S$3000 per month.

Typical work permit holders with OT is about S$2000+

Hire a foreigner cost company around $3k per month. But if hire locals, you can afford salary lower than $3k lo. Lol.

thats probably your fine perfect world ... look at one of the big engineering firm in town , very big one from USA .. there are so many FTs from 2 popular countries being employed in the engineering dept as well as IT dept and coincidentally the HOD of different discipline or the recruiting guy is also from that particular country . Why ? singapore lack of engineers or IT people ?

Every lunch time , lifts are always crowded with the same nationality ...why ?

and these engineering firms can pay ... Probably to you , its a matter of value .. probably to some hiring pricks ...they only hire and only consider their own kind , due to convenience of same spoken mother tongue and probabaly slightly cheaper ..

This is REAL .. and is happening all the time ..

well.

i guess it is undeniable that there are companies like that.

but you look at it objectively, i see a few things.

1. the cheaper foreign staff can do the same job as a more expensive local. why would the company for more for the same?

2. if the foreigners cannot do the job. the coy will eventually lose money and close down wouldn't it? so the fact that they are thriving is prove that the foreigners are capable of doing the job.

3. Instead of complaining about how foreigners are taking away low value jobs like engineer etc, why don't you focus on moving up the value chain, learning new skills, take up new certifications etc. Where your strengths in singaporean can be more fully utilised.

just my thoughts.

i agree on that.

FT are cheap but the company may be paying in other way, losing business and bottom line. eventually might close shop. I know some of them are able to quote 30%-40% lower in the project/contract but they deliver a half done or screw up job that cost the customer more in the end. These customers will learn and not repeat the same mistake.
