Discussion for Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

Agree......power is similar on paper. In fact I think NX's paper spec is higher than GLC's, Jap's dyno figures tends to be from the engine while Conti's tends to be on wheel.

I think the difference in real world test drive condition is not discernable.

The only difference I feel is the power delivery via the toyota 6AT vs the 9G-tronic...again the difference is small but the new MB transmission shifts quicker and more obvious on manual pedal shift mode.

Anyway, no one buys an SUV for tracking. So long as can dispatch off taxi drivers and road hoggers decisively is enough on SG roads. :D

Too many gears is a pita as well. I've got 8, sometimes the shifts get abit "busy" up and down too often.

I think 6 or max 7 is just nice.

Had a 7g-tronic on a v6 w203, other than the notorious clunk on up shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the gear shifts are pretty smooth and intelligent with minimal instances of gear hunting. This 9g-tronic is a much better improvement over the 7g-tronic with even smoother shifts and almost no gear hunting.  Suits the SUV driving characteristics pretty well. So all in, i will say it's not really the number of gears, rather the gear shift speed and transmission programming that makes or breaks a gearbox.

Again, the preference differs. I normally look for some extra "power" / kick. Last year I was in the hunt for an SUV/CUV with a power hungry mode on - finally ended up with Macan S, which I feel now is over burnt. NX/RX, even with turbo, very lethargic. GLC was much better. Again, car is a personal choice. Every car is good in some way or other.

Enjoy your GLC bro!

Power is not everything and the NX is no slouch either.

I don't think it loses to the GLC in that aspect

On singapore roads definitely.

Macan S is too much.

Over the years of driving so many different cars, i would say that a 200++ hp car would be the best match for Singapore. Decent useable uumph. Just nice for our traffic and roads.

That said, for most of us, its hardly the doing, its the knowing.

So the more horses the better. Heee heee.

Enjoy your Macan S.

I think I mountain tortoise.....but after some time with the MB Intelligent LED Light System that comes standard on CnC GLC, I find it quite impressive!

http://techcenter.mercedes-benz.com/en/led_intelligent_light_system/detail.html

The LED Intelligent Light System offers a variety of adaptive light functions which automatically adapt the headlamps to typical driving and weather situations.

LED headlamps are closer to the daylight colour spectrum than xenon headlamps, for example, and are less tiring for the driver's eyes. There is no need to change the bulbs for the whole life of the vehicle.

Individual light functions:

Country mode and motorway mode replace dipped beam headlamps. Country mode illuminates the verge on the vehicle side more brightly and extensively than standard halogen dipped headlamps do. At speeds above 90 km/h, motorway mode is automatically activated, expanding the driver's visibility in two stages: first the performance of the LEDs increases, illuminating the road and the verges better. Then, at speeds above 110 km/h the range of the lamps is increased without dazzling the oncoming traffic.

The active light function swings the headlamps into bends by up to 15°, thus illuminating the road far better. This works in both dipped and full-beam mode.

The cornering light function improves the illumination of the road on corners and tight bends. Above a certain steering wheel angle, a module with two LEDs per headlamp is automatically activated on the appropriate side.

The extended foglamp reduces dazzle to the driver caused by light reflected by the fog and at the same time it illuminates the outer half of the road more brightly. To do so, the headlamp on the driver's side swings outwards by 8° and the light cone is lowered. The function can be activated at speeds of up to 70 km/h. If the driver subsequently accelerates to a speed of over 100 km/h, the extended foglamp switches off.

The rear lamps also have LED technology. In order not to dazzle following drivers, the brightness of the brake lamp varies according to the ambient light and is for example automatically dimmed at night at a red traffic light. In addition, together with the brake light, the surrounding light strips light up, further reducing the dazzling effect.

When the vehicle is stationary, the LED Intelligent Light System also provides the driver with improved comfort and safety: the "coming home" function is triggered by the key fob when the vehicle is opened or locked and lights the way to or from the vehicle.

We want kick from standstill to reach the next light and repeat...... [:p]

When I started from Borneo, SE asked to take AYE, but I "u" turned at the Anchorage and back to showroom and said I am sorry, let us not waste time.

Lexus is not for everyone, it is a car to sit back and enjoy the leisure driving which is not in my liking.
