dcb Turbocharged September 23, 2015 Share September 23, 2015 Thought the old Mazdas are petrol guzzlers. nice.. Mazda has come along way to up the game. Used to own 3 ford laser and one 323 before moving to other rides. Handling was one of the better quality as well as FC. The Mazda of old was reliable, but metal was soft and starts to rust on year 7 onwards ↡ Advertisement
Mazda2gal 5th Gear September 23, 2015 Share September 23, 2015 (edited) Have been driving a Mazda 2 for 9+years, still like it very much as it is reliable and easy to drive. FC is 13-14km/l on 80-90% expressway driving, not impressive but acceptable. Acceleration is not fantastic but it's not a powerful car in the first place. I travel alone most of the time, no need for big space. Paintwork looks new from afar (closer look can see the dings and dents), the metalic blue colour is still shiny. It looks so new that people are surprised at its age. No major issue other than problems resulting from wear and tear like engine vibration when idling and air con not strong after the car turned 8 years old. So I've faith in Mazda and considering getting a new one, though I'm also interested in Honda vezel. Went to the motorshow in April/May, the listed price was about $107k iirc, which was not far off the listed price of Honda vezel. At that price, it was not attractive. Seems that the price of M2 has dropped quite a bit. Can consider it while keeping other options open. Will like to do a bit of homework before going for test drive because going to showrooms can make one too excited and judgement get clouded. Not to mention the SEs trying very hard to sell their cars. Appreciate advice to the following: 1. Any major problems and issues with the new M2? 2. Those who testdrove both M2 and M3, do you find M2 more responsive since it's lighter? 3. Any loyalty discount? 4. Any minimum loan amount? Since SEs get a cut out of the loan taken by clients, they'll hope that we take up bigger loan amount and may set a min loan amount? I think the SE who sold me my current car wasn't too pleased that I took very little loan, he defaulted on the free visors promised during purchase and No Show several times after making appointments to deliver the visors. Although still find the Honda Vezel a beauty, the recent thefts of Honda cars in Malaysia really make me hesitant about getting one. Mazda car seems safer in Malaysia since they're less likely to be the target of car thieves. Am I right to say that? The new mazda 2 is great in terms of looks, however if you wan space i think vezel would be better. Let me try to answer some of ur questions even tho i only got the car for 1month+ 1. No major problem with the car so far. Some things you might wanna take note is that when the car starts(cold start), the engine sound is REALLY loud. I-stop is kinda annoying sometimes(do note that it uses starter motor to restart, just that the restart time is fast due to aligning of piston) 2. Didnt test drive m3 but my fren who has a m3 mentioned that m3 has no sport mode. M2 has it, so if u wan responsive-ness can just turn the sport mode on for m2. Both m2 and m3(confirmed by my fren) will only feel the responsive-ness when ur rpm hit 3k...in normal driving, it takes abit more time to rev up.... seems like its being limited(overcome when u turn on sport mode) 3. If u trade in a old mazda, think there is 1k loyal discount. 4. This part i not sure, cant help u..., paiseh.... Nothing like ur old mz2 other than lesser headroom in current one. pickup cfm better than mz3. Also hamdles well like or better than Some bigger cars. I think vezel engine louder. Only setback for me will b space n price.

Am I right to say that? due to the fact this is a new model, you wont find many owners here.. after driving 6K, i have to say for me it ticks most of the boxes except for boot space, passenger space. no issues la, except for a very loud cold engine start noise... anyways i just drive off almost instantly.. m2 & m3 kerb weight difference around 300kg. of course there is a difference in drivability. the sport mode is so fun if you want it to be fast.. For comparing the DRL of m2 v vezel.. if you notice, the DRL has many small small spots which are reflected inside..

For comparing the DRL of m2 v vezel.. if you notice, the DRL has many small small spots which are reflected inside.. Tks guys for sharing! Now that you all mention about loud cold engine start noise, my old M2 also has it but I've accepted it as 'normal' for a entry level small car. Read that the engines for M2 and M3 are the same, output almost the same, so I reckon for the same power, M2 will be able to accelerate faster given the lighter weight. This is important for me, every morning need to accelerate to overtake roadhoggers on PIE, so far the M2 has served me well. As for space, my old M2 's boot space is good, I find that it is more flexible than many sedans for moving big bulky items. Yet to compare with the new M2. But when I sat in the new M2, I find the space at the driver seat seems a bit smaller than the old M2.

dcb Turbocharged September 26, 2015 Share September 26, 2015 I was thinking along the line too. However I stuck to a Mz2 for the interior look, deluxe features and also the roof lining. Sat in a Mz3 rear seat and press on the roof and immediately the cover 'sunk' in. That's a no no for me immediately. Now M2 deluxe and M3 std is the same price at $106k.
