Got lah. Toyota Avensis. The only problem is more expensive than Hyundai.

Hence the word 'suitable' in my original post.

IIRC, it is not due to turbo consideration but conformance to diesel particulate emission standard

OK I used the term 'turbodiesel' mainly cos I think no EU4/5 diesel engine was ever made without a turbo.

I think the D4-D diesels from Toyota do meet the standards (which is why we can see the diesel HiAces on our roads).

Maybe price is cheaper for korean make?! But maintainance wise, dont know cheaper than jap or not? But always heard from taxi drivers who are driving the korean make taxi that their taxi have many problems after certain years, as compared with last time toyota taxi.

Maintenance confirmed more expensive. Worked for cab company before. At least 2-3x if not more. Part of the reason why rentals go up. The old crown taxis, everything was designed in an tough industrial simple manner and lasts longer. That model was designed specially to be a taxi (and still is being used in Japan).

So far only comfort buy korean make in bulk for their taxi. Other taxi companies dont have korean make, other than silvercab. Didnt see any new model for kia taxi on the road?

Still got Epica(maroon) and that Renault(red and white), both korean make.

Heard the Epica is terrible for reliability. A lot of breakdowns and quite a few caught fire. The Renault is still ok.

Looks like korean make have many problems, no matter which model?! Maybe korean make only good for private cars, and cannot be used as taxi.

I didn't know there's one until recently.

Actually, Crown is designed to be a taxi so by architecture it's still the most suitable. But Japan only makes LPG version now (not even CNG), so can't import into Singapore.

Time flies. I think the first Sonata taxis were from about 2005/06? So lots of them lifespan going to finish liao.

i40 I believe only started appearing last two years (2013/14) though, so I think still got quite a number of Sonatas left. Probably will have to wait till 2020 until the last Sonata dies off.

This taxi company always buy 'special' car model as taxi? Think there is one elantra also.

Japan should produce their crown taxi to suit the different market, so that other places can buy from them, as crown is designed to be taxi.
