Yeah... cos the Sonata base trim doesn't get cruise control... interesting...

My SE told me that they have to choose from fixed packages in terms of the features they want to include. And then they will calculate the OMV and decide if they can sell the car at a competitive rate. So apparently no electronic parking brakes for all models cos the package that includes that carries some other features that drive the price up and makes the overall package price uncompetitive hard. They know that Hyundai buyers are very price sensitive.

I m pretty sure all diesel engine of recent days have a turbo. They can't function without one.

For a 1.6l diesel turbo produces abt 240-270nm of torque.

this one produces 41kg.m which translates to abt 402nm of torque. shld be with a diesel turbo.

I am interested in the 2.0 diesel turbo for the drive.

I am new to diesel engines.

Can anyone advise on downside of diesel engines?

Thanks!

A bit noisy when older, got the taxi clattering engine sound. When new, probably can't hear but my SE kept complaining that the Tucson diesel is rather noisy unlike the petrol model. You need some additional maintenance for some diesel filters replacement. Overall won't cost you more. But you have to drive enough to offset extra cost of car and other maintenance and of course the diesel taxes. At least 2000 km a month will give you a good and worthwhile level of savings.

I heard from my SE is that they will give you vocuher and you have to go to the workshop yourself. The reason is because of the lemon law. they don't want because of the solar film not doing well then the customer go complain to komoco. So if any thing not right to the solar film, customer has to settle with the solar film company directly.

When i bought my veloster in 2012 this was already the practice. But the good thing is when u go down to the shop you can choose to top up to get higher grade if you want or do some customisation. If AD do for you then when they give (which is usually the basic) is what you get.

When you mentioned about diesel filter replacement, are you referring to the particle filter?

Do you know how long before I need to replace the particle filter? Also, is it expensive to replace the particle filter?

Thank you!

Congrats... my SE said my shipment arriving next Friday.. u thought of getting any accessories fr Ali express? Dont think any dealers here have brought in since the model stull quite new.

I have tried those after market air filters like K&N, both drop in and open pod. Honestly speaking, u can't feel any difference, ESP for a NA ride. For K&N filters, u need to wash and oil it, very troublesome and not worth it.

I think most of us waiting for our cars since Feb & Mar batches securing the COE are going to get our cars in this week. And I guess it will take two weeks to do the paperwork like inspection, taxes, registration, and fixing up of stuff that is installed locally before they are ready to deliver to us. So that would take us to mid- April... sigh... I got my COE for the Sonata on 23 Mar, so I'm still waiting... admire the patience of those who got COE in Feb and have to wait till mid-Apr...

No. Will not happen.

There are still a lot of Sillypore driver cannot accept Korea car. My office already had a few example already.

They will rather go for a very basic spec and more ex japan car than a full spec cheaper Korea car.

U r right. I think part of me still have that mentality. That's y I still didn't commit Elantra when it's priced same / in range of Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru.

But I also haven't commit to any jap car either.

Yes the particulate filter actually. That's the correct term I believe. Hyundai uses a particulate trap method for their diesel engines. So this trap or filter will trap the soot from the engine exhaust fumes and in time will clog up. Now what happens is that these type of engines have a filter/trap regeneration mode. Since the soot is combustible, at certain engine and exhaust temperatures, some of the very hot exhaust gases are forced into this filter/trap and the soot is burnt up to CO2 and then released. This will regenerate the filter/trap and you don't have to replace it. If you often drive short distances and the engine and exhaust temperature is not hot enough, or the engine is shut down when the regeneration is on-going, then the regeneration process will not be successful and you may get a warning from the car's computer that the particulate filter needs to be changed. From what I understand, you simply need to drive the car at high speed (90 kmh or higher) for around 15-20 min continuously to burn off the soot in the filter. But I also understand that for some cars, if that warning comes on, the engine will not start cos your exhaust fumes will violate certain EU / US environmental regulations... not sure if Singapore is so strict or not...

Those who know better, please weigh in with what you know... cos I cannot be completely certain I remember correctly...

All these from the top of my head based on what I remember after doing extensive reading on forums and articles online. Cos my dad is driving a new Renault Fluence which runs a 1.5 L turbo-diesel and uses this particulate filter/trap method.
