I assume some of the contributors here have driven the S60?

 

I would just like to ask if anyone had the same experience I had. I drove a brand new S60 in 2011 in Germany (was trying to get the also new A6 but being rental, you get what's available) from Berlin to Frankfurt. My brother and I took turns to drive the car to Frankfurt where we were to change to Cayman S's for our driving trip but that's another travelogue story if there is any interest.

 

Coming back to the S60. We had 500+km to drive the car between the two of us and this was our common finding. While competent, the car did not have any feel in the steering, no road feedback at all. It seems dead. We drove the car to 200kmph on certain Autobahn sections but there was hardly any feel in the steering.

 

The other thing for me was that after that long drive, I had a sore lower back. The seat did not feel 100% to me no matter how I adjusted the seat.

 

Did anyone here have the same experience? Or perhaps the people at Volvo had made changes to these issues?

Did you adjust the lumbar portion of the seat? It's that cog wheel on the side of the driver's seat. That may have been sticking too far out and given you grief.

 

To date, I haven't found a better driver's sear than a volvo. Many other drivers seat, I can't wait to get out of the car. They are either too stiff or feel absolutely mushy.

The specs for both cars are very decent .... I was tempted with the S60 as well ... 245 bhp, 350 NM and 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

 

But ... wowo .... and I cant get over with the central console.

 

Ford .... unless drive for 10 years ... resale is poor.

 

For event cars, i believe owner is still 1 owner.. just that you loan the car to them for the event and get back when the event is completed. Thinks about it ... they still selling the event car. For BMW, the cars are all gone before you heard the news.....

Mushy. That's the word that escaped me earlier. The seat in that S60 we drove was just that. I don't think we fiddled with the lumbar support either. The drive itself was alright. It was only at the end that the soreness in the back was felt. So you and I had different experiences with the car.

have to spend some time to adjust until comfortable.

 

steering feel is lacking compared to Mondeo.

But when sitting in one for a while I don't find the claim from some reviewers of "best seats in the industry" farfetched...

Seems to me the Mondeo is more than "decent"... it's loaded to the kitchen sink with equipment...

Unless you are just referring to performance spec, in which case the Volvo wins by a wide margin... until you look for skidpad numbers. C&D scored 0.88g on the pad with a 2.0L EcoBoost AWD Fusion.

If you are referring to skidpad; don't forget that the Fusion in question weighs about 223kg more than the Mazda 6 and 211kg more than the Honda Accord in question.

Consider that the Fusion is able to pull the same skidpad Gs while lugging and extra 400lb...

I fail to see any advantage to performance in a heavier car...

There may not be an advantage, but it's worth noting when considering cornering performance. It's an achievement in its own way, isn't it?
