Hey Roger,

Mentioned already that ZMC is local distro but accessories shops e.g. Foon Audio, DimensionAudio, ChuanSeng, xTreme Audio, Audio Solutions etc. other than grey market still provides same back to back warranty from main distro .. same for all other accessories including iRoad, Blackvue, Alpine, Pioneer, Groundzero, Focal Steg, Microprecision, Tchernov etc.

Cheers.

Richard

I saw zmc website. Foon is not one of their authorised dealers. Perhaps you can look at zmc website as well

Hey Roger,

I see your concern now .. no worry for me cos website dun list all and their circle is a small one that any shop picks up items from zmc.

Cheers.

Ok. Just a concern that if need to claim warranty from Foon, there could be an issue

Hi all

I’m looking to purchase a new car and forester 2.0 is one of the top of my list. I’m quoted 104,800 with sports kit and non guaranteed coe. 109,800k for guaranteed coe.

Currently I use my Honda vezel to ferry my kids to school . I have a child seat at the back and the 2 kids going to school have to put their school bags on the ground. I find it quite squeeze for them with the school bag on the ground their legs are essentially squashed. So I’m looking to upgrade my hubbys car a civic to either a forester or outlander, hopefully with their school bags on the ground their legs can still be comfortable...

Could anyone advise on the legroom in front and 2nd row and also fc. Pickup not so important as I’m soft footed.

Also what freebies can I expect to bargain for when I’m at showroom this week?

I have driven my FXT for slightly more than a year.  Pretty happy with the performance so far but encountered two issues:

1)  The driver's side aircon was not cold last month as compared to the passenger's side.  Sent it back to MI to check and confirmed aircon condenser leaked.  MI replaced the whole aircon condenser under warranty.

2)  The check engine and hill assist light appeared with cruise control and sport mode light blinking two days ago while I was driving.  Sent it back to MI again to check and confirmed rear oxygen sensor faulty.  Got it replaced under warranty.  No wonder the car was quite sluggish in the last two weeks as the air/fuel ratio should be messed up by the faulty oxygen sensor.

Pretty disappointed as my FXT is barely more than a year old.  Has anyone encountered the above issues so far?

I have the two similar issues for my FXT:

1) Condenser leaked too.  Right after 20K servicing at Leng Kee.  Waited for them to order and replaced.  Free since it is under warranty.  But spend two trips just to fix that. First trip just to top up gas since no stock.  Second trip to replace the condenser.

2) Washer fluid light didn't go off even if I top up the washer fluid to full.  Will repair when I send for 30K servicing soon.

Yes, I am as disappointed it is also just more than 1 year old.  Didn't have such problem with previous Honda car.  Didn't expect to get such problem for a Japanese car.

I have 2 kids, my previous car was Lancer EX, my family love the Forester N/A (2.0 non Turbo). Boot we have 2 stroller. We were consider Ourlander(7 seater, 2 seat are mini seat) before but choose the Forester(5 Seater) and love it.

FC on PIE from west to east everyday is about 10-12km/ Ltr. Drove to Melacca(14km/L on NSHW) When whole week neighborhood and school trip only is about 9-10km/L. abit high on FC but its a real good car. you may like to go to Youtube to search for some review video (Oversea). Hope you will join us in Forester on the road!

all the above FC is base on manual calculation.

About Freebies, I have no comment as I'm not a good bargainer. I think it's better to get $$$ discount then freebie.

Hello! Thanks for your reply...

any reason U chose the forester over outlander?

Was it the finishing or the feel of the drive?

Same as thefalcon, I used to drive a Lancer EX and with 2 kids. I was also looking at Forester and Outlander then and finally decided on the Forester. In my opinion, Forester has better drive feel. Outlander is softer but bigger. However, the 3rd row is not going to be much use when the kids gets slightly bigger. Another point is the Outlander 2.0 is 2WD unlike the 2.4L.

Appears that the air con system/condenser is a common weak link for forester. Have read quite a few posts on faulty ones. Dunno if there is any reliable tip to preserve the air con system but personally i off it before i shut the engine. To turn on, i pressed the circulation button and turn on the fan speed (to prevent auto bypass to outside air mode). Zzzzz.

Seem like quite a few members here transited from lancer ex :)

Answer is the drive, cabin space and boot space.

As for finishing I think both are the same. For us, we need a reliable car, we no need many feature.

We just need auto wiper during rain, Auto head light when it's dark and Keyless unlock.

GPS ( I prefer the suck on the screen type ), Car entertainment system not important ( just radio is enough ), Lane departure warning and iSight ( I trust my driving better than rely on A.I. )

Love the forester. Really! And one more think, when we got the Forester, my neighbor  pay the same price for a Toyota Altis!!!! Yah, Toyota have better FC , but before you save on the fuel, you already paid to Boneo Motor the money you suppose to save from fuel!!  :-)

this is the malaysia review. Can't find Singapore review on off road, just don't be sad when you hear the price in Malaysia is RM140,000= S$45,000 ( Price of COE )

( December flood also no problem )

Totally agree on the Toyota part. I ever considered getting a Prius as everyone was telling me how 1L in that car can run almost 29km in Singapore. But the price tag was 130k... same as Forester XT at that time. This fuel saving premium from BM only makes sense if you clog very high mileage annually, but totally makes no sense for a normal family car.

Was driving a forester for 8 years,... but switched to another model to try something different.  [grin]

Presently looking at the prices:

Outlander 2.4L : $136K

X-Trail 2.0 L : $141K

Harrier 2.0L : $140K+++

Honda CRV 1.5Turbo: $141K

Forester 2.0L : $107K

I wont include Forester XT, as I do not need so much power in a car for Urban Driving in SG.

Initially, I wanted to buy Outlander, but after few test drives and thorough search, finalized Forester FNA.

Forester FNA makes the best value for money. Driving it for Past 20 months, love the drive. All Wheel Drive (AWD) makes much difference, especially during rains. The uninterrupted big Sun/moonroof is the best compared to all above models.

this vehicle is spacious and 5 adults of 1.8m height can sit comfortably, which is not possible in any 1.6L sedan.

Boot Space is more than sufficient in Forester, and the best thing is Organizer under the boot surface, much better than Outlander and X-trail.

Urban FC is usually 10.5 km / litre.  In SG, Fuel makes just a small fraction of total car keeping costs. Suppose if any other vehicle does 12.5 KM/L, so based on 2000KM (on the higher end) monthly, the difference is :

Monthly : 30 Litres = $69

Annually: 360 Litres = $828

10 yrs : 3600 Litres = $ 8280

So compared Car price :  Outlander : 136K

Forester car Price + Fuel cost difference : 106K + 8280 = 114,280

X-Trail and Harrier finishing is slightly better than Forester, but again we have to evaluate, at what cost. X-trail last 2 seats are only for toddlers, but they also cant sit there as they need baby seats, which cant fit there. Not sure now, but Outlander didn't have auto retractable side mirrors in 2016, which is quite normal in all cars for past 10 yrs, it can be important factor for some people like myself.

The Forester has quite a high transmission tunnel. You better bring your your kids and their school bags to the showroom.

Hi Iftiee,

Forester XT is also around 140k+ due to indent basis and more costly due to low OMV but it is really not about power in the sense of speeding but the driveability with 350Nm 240bhp as well as associated safety with a car that is predictable in response.

I have no experience with listed Outlander, X-trail or Honda CRV but it is not with ease in driving bulky NA Harrier 2.0L from PI that I am very familiar with while it is joy to drive with incomparable ease and stress-free response for the Forester XT that both NA Harrier 2.0L and presumably Xtrail cannot be compared to ... do consider Harrier Turbo from BM even though a shade lesser than Forester XT in this driveability aspect but without the bouncy ride that you should be aware of with Forester albeit not sure if FNA is similar to FXT on this shortcoming.

BTW, retractable side mirrors of the Outlander can be easily fixed at <sgd100 and should not be a show stopper.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Andrew,

If getting into the Forester is a concern, time for side-step mod or betta still retractable side-step mod at about sgd1.8k ..lol !

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Richard,

You are right about OMV, but I didnt recommend XT, only FNA for local driving, Though less bhp than XT,  but it is till close to competitors.

but it seems more spacious, maybe due to it's boxy shape.

Many people are comfortable in buying cars from PI's, but Authorized dealers suit more to people like me with less knowledge of cars.

Rest again, all these cars have their pros n cons.

Cheers
