Distilled water not equal to deionized water... I'm not sure if the drinking type of distilled water meets the battery specifications lar... cos when the manual states distilled water, they could well be referring to battery water that is sold in shops. Usually, the battery manufacturer will specify the ion content of the water used to fill the battery and there is a tolerance range for some of the common ions present in raw water.

Yes it is FB20. Wonder when subaru will bring in direct injection to this engine to bump up the compression ratio.

May I ask if anyone can let me know if the current N.A frosty is using which engine ah? is it FB20?

Turbocharged

@Bentong, yep 4 doors, roof, undercarriage coating

@jamesgetz, yeah, thats next on the list, thinking of changing at the next tyre change

@muser, no idea what brand, very sorry. the invoice just says aluminium coated pads. i left my car overnight, i think they can probably rush out in the evening if you sent it in at 7.30am, but for me i wanted them to check other stuff as well and i wasn't in a rush, thought better to get them to do it properly, so i just said i'll pickup the next day. it was done by lunchtime the next day.

@slazen, the doors, roof and undercarriage did cut down the noise quite significantly in my opinion, so i was quite happy with the results. hopefully will improve more with the tyre change. akan datang

Sound proofing - how much?

Undercarriage - how much? include anti rust?

I do not know the answer but let me share something. My sis in law scratched her car 2 sides in carparks.  Went to Mazda thinking that otherwise will void warranty. Quote was $1,800 albeir for 6 panels with some dents.

When I heard that I thought that she was mad. Contacted a painter that I know and it was $800. Looks the same as the original car.

Shop around.

My previous Estima have similar problem and was quoted $700 by local workshop.  Went to JB and got it done for 700RM and looks like original.

No doubt JB will be cheaper.

In SG, the businesses are working for their landlords.

However, do check the brand of the paint being used. There's German paint and China paint

Would the "coating" help to reduce the heat (from engine compartment) radiant through the front doors hinge areas ? (which some heat ultimately find its way into cabin)

Once you stop the engine, open front door and feel the heat at the hinge area.

That's an interesting qn. So can spray on the door and hinges to reduce heat transmission from engine?

I only did the undercarriage coating at $290. Was quoted 4 doors and roof for $1150. Both add up should be $1440. Not sure if I were quoted correctly.

I asked the same question and I was shown some foam/fiber type material for the $1150 soundproofing. SE said the quote I got was for the aluminium type material.

@bentong - undercarriage was $290, 4 doors $680, roof $60, all before GST. Includes anti-rust.

Are your considering soundproofing for PFL or FL ?

I am more interested to find out if the same coating is also able to insulate some heat from engine compartment.

I have previously posted how my batt went flat after 5 days of non-usage. Today I went to MI and here's the outcome:

1. I left the car there. Collected at the end of the day. Was told that they did a test and the battery is ok. They charged it up and then can collect car. Showed me battery test slip shows that batt is ok.

2. I asked the service guy: so cannot leave the car for 5 days not used?

3. Service guy: sir, we recommend 2 days must start. Sometimes the battery is old.

3. Me: Is that the official Subaru or MI statement? I need to know so that I can see how long a holiday I can go on. I collected my new car in early May 2016.

4. Service guy: I will check with technical and call you.

5. Me: Don't  call me, email me. I know that you may not have the answer, can you give me the email of the guy that has the answer?

6. Service guy: I will check.

7. Me: Here's my email.

So now I wait for email to come. Will keep you guys posted.

Won't the opportunity cost of not being able to use the car (by leaving it at MI for 5 days) outweigh the cost of a new battery?

That said, your car is so new, I would be pissed off if I have to buy a new battery just to prove that the problem lies with the battery...

Hope you find out what's the cause of the problem and resolve it soon.

Quite interesting this FL model. Weird to be precise. One side of the car looks cool and sexy.. But the other side... Edited by BenTong
