What does the 2 bars previous and current mean? What are they measuring exactly?

Can some kind bro advice?

It should be the just completed trip's FC as compared to the last trip you did.

So it is like close to 10km per litre?

ENGINE COMPARTMENT

  • It's not recommended to install alarm system; even MI does not provide such option (Subaru does have options fo alarm systems, can verify this by checking the Subaru Japan Parts catelogue)

  • It's difficult and time consuming to replace the spark plugs. We have four in the car and it'll take easily 1.5 hours. Fortunately this only needs to be done at 80k or 100k.(One of the trade-offs for having a boxer engine.)

INTERIOR

  • When starting the engine, go through the cycle of push the start button once to activate audio and clock, another time for the full check and then press the brake together with the button to start the engine. He recommended that sequence to ensure all's tested before the engine is started. (hmmm... i only do this when inspecting used cars.. haha, may not be practical to do daily lah)
  • Air con - auto climate function will open up the external air inlet if the temperature is too low or if the air has been circulating for too long. Cannot be overridden, set up in Japan. (Can be overcome, assuming that you turn off the aircon before you power off the engine. After you start the car:

    1. Press the internal circulation button

    2. Turn the fan knob (center knob) to turn on the aircon.

There you have it, the aircon will not switch to internal circulation mode during your drive...)

  • The paddle shifter can be used in D or M mode, although he doesn't see any need for that in Singapore traffic (personal opinion.. hahaa)
  • The auto-fold mirror accessory can be purchased and installed - S$ 160 with tax included. Well worth it in my view. (A very useful third party module (not from subaru).. saved me from leaving my doors open on a few occasions... One side caution, the side mirror folding motor may not be originally designed to automatically fold everytime you locked the door. So one can expect earlier than usual failure..)

Thanks for sharing! Added some thoughts about the points raised. Hope it can help others too~ :D

Not easy to capture this shot...

To achieve 6.5L/100km, did you try to "sayang" the turbo ... ? Or still running in ?

The 6.5L/100km on the left will work out to be around 15km/L for that particular trip.

The 2 bars on the right is the overall average FC of that tank (last trip and the previous trip) since you last reset the trip meter.

Actually was due to too many laser camera on expressway plus driving during lunch time from Tuas to Thomson and back... Clear traffic...

This is definitely not a regular consumption... Usually reads more like 9 - 10 litres per 100km.

Must standby the camera before you switch off the ignition to capture that shot...hahaha.

If it's mostly highway for a single trip, my FXT can achieve around 7.5L/100km. Based on average 90+km/hr cruising speed.

Just to share my experience of Blackvue cam.

I have MI installedThe Blackvue cam system in my FXT. It is quite user friendly and you can download an app to view the recorded files on your phone. The system stored the file in one minute block which make it convenience to review the event. The system comes with 32GB memory which is sufficient normal recording of driving. The Blackvue will turn off when the engine is off.

If you want to have recording when the car is parked, meaning 24 hour reconding, then you need to install a device called Power magic by Blackvue. (MI sells it) This is to prevent the battery draining when you park over a long period of time.

With 32GB of storage, you can record about 12-14 hours non stop which is not alot. The DR650GW-2CH can support up to 128GB of memory. With 128GB, you will get few days of recording before overwrite.

So, if you are thinking of installing Blackvueand with 24 hours recording in your Forester, ask your SE for 128GB before signing the dotted line,

Exactly what I did. I standby my camera before I switch off the engine.

Usually I am not very bothered by read outs in car, but I keep seeing this and wanted to know what exactly is telling me.

Thanks again for enlightening.

About right, managed to get 2 trips with these 6.5 & 6.8 l / 100 km on clear expressway all the way at 90 - 95 km / hr cruising speed.

So my lunch route of 45 km used only about 3 litre of 98... Not bad consumption...

I got my blackvue and power magic from MI. Downloaded blackvue C app too.

I use an iphone. When in the car, I can use the wifi to view the playback if I need.

But I am unable to use the blackvue cloud function on the blackvue c to view when I am at home, so I hardly turn on the power magic to let it record when parked.

My question is how do u register new camera on blackvue Cloud.

My iphone don't seem to be able to read the QR code.

Thanks in advance if you can advice.

To use the "cloud", you need to add a data device (from Blackvue) with "sim card with data plan", so that video files can be sent to the "cloud". Pro is that you can access video files remote. The con is that you need a data plan.

reading up quite a bit about detailing and paint protection etc.  Got a question before I collect my new FXT in early June.  Is it good idea to give it a wax job immediately to coat the clear coat?

There are so many PPS products in the market now that I've lost count. All will claim that their coatings are the best. It's could be nano, ceramic, glass, titanium or whatever they want to call them.

It'll come down to budget as well. Set a budget, do some research on reviews of the different companies. Waxing might appear to be cheaper as compared to ceramic coating or equivalent, but the latter coatings will last longer. You will be able to see the 'beading' and gloss results for a longer period. Not to mention easier to clean as dirt is easily washed off.

I did the CS-II PPS for my last car and it manages to seal in the black in the paint after 8 years, as compared to my friend's black car bought during the same period. Of course fine swirl marks will appear after some time regardless of what coatings, but it does protect the paint to a certain degree as compared to none.

My current FXT is now coated with ceramic coating with so called 9H hardness since week 1 from another detailer. But I'm quite disappointed with the coating after 2 months. Saw some fine swirl marks and the beading effect is not so pronounced anymore. It's not the top of the range though, at $450, but I expected it to last a little longer. Most likely will do some other coating nearer to CNY next year. Called up the detailer and he said I washed it the wrong way! I followed their washing instructions and it seems they are trying to shun away from touching it up. Can PM me if you want to know which detailer. I will not disclose it openly online.

Thanks.  I am a bit skeptical about all these pay to coat services.  Instead I am Youtubing those various products, and I am inclined to go for DIY sealant that can last a few months and enhance with some lighter sealant or wax from the same product range......I am not really into this for looks, but more for functional paint protection..

I am also a bit lacking in knowledge on the prep.  Seems a jet spray is very useful to wash off dirt but staying in HDB unless I get a portable pump and jet I would be left with pouring pails of water.  Concern is if I don't clean it well in the prep stage then the sealant stage may seal in dirt or scratch the car....which makes me think  back about pay to coat services....grrrr....

If you are staying HDB, forget about DIY.  I don't even wash my car ownself due to lack of running water hose.  How to use portable jet spray w/o constant running water?

It's going to be tricky to prep the car for proper coating. Not just washing thoroughly, but also claying and polishing.

Especially if your car is black like mine, it will be extremely difficult to maintain in tip top condition all the time with our tropical weather. I agree that it's more for the paint protection properties.

@Fungsiong, regarding the "Battery we have in our car is original from Japan - liquid type not maintenance free", does it mean that we have to top up the liquid now and then? Where to get this liquid? Eventually, can we replace this battery with those maintenance free type like from Amazon?

Thanks.

I have never need to top up the OEM battery in my Leggy during the time I used it. just ask MI to do it for you during servicing bah.

why do you need water pump? just connect hose with the correct adaptor and spray lah! if you want it easier, go HomeFixIt to get those brands where people use for their gardens, to get the correct tap adapter (it will come with both sizes common in HDB washing points). buy a durable hose plus a nozzle, and you are good to go!

as long as you wash when no one else around, nobody will care about your spraying...

Car alarm is necessary if you drive a Harrier and mark X.. Esp when u go massage in JB

Any car alarm is useless if they have the "master key". Deterrents might make them think twice.. e.g. Steering wheel lock.
