Hi Yellobie,

Please consider the cheapo but lasting cob led light strip that I had installed and working fine in the last 4 months ... order 10 if you have any concerns for spare since 1 pc is sgd1+ or sgd10+ for all 10 with free shipping:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1X-100-Waterproof-Ultra-thin-20W-COB-Chip-LED-Daytime-Running-Light-LED-DIY-DRL-Fog/32689713947.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.wOmSNO

For the engine bay lights that I installed in my fxt which is super useful, you will need the bonnet switch which is also sgd1+/pc but do add fuse even if such cob lights used low current and rubber hose to run along the bonnet hinge to the underside of the bonnet:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Universal-Adjustable-Car-Engine-Truck-Boat-Hood-Door-Alarm-Bonnet-Switch-Pin-Plastic-and-Metal/32822633233.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.LjYwqF

For rear boot lights, having just led bulb change is still often not satisfactory since coverage is still bad ...  use 2 pcs of these cob lights and 50 cents wiring will have the below preferred uniform and bright lighting which is not glaring unlike led as shown in my qashqai below.

Cheers,

Richard

Thanks for sharing the links Richard. The lights are nice, and I would love to get some for the bonnet area like what you have done.

For the boot light, I'm trying to find a solution that doesn't need modding for now. Lights placed above the boot area are definitely ideal. Will look into this again to see if I can achieve that using minimal effort in the future  [:p]

Thanks again for the wonderful ideas!

Thanks for sharing bro. Where did you get the Philip bulbs from? How much? Can provide me with the link?

Wah Sibei Swee!

Hi Chucky, I got the brighter LED from taobao. Here's the link

The price is around S$12 for a single piece, excluding shipping.

Hi Tohto,

Tks but I will never get the xv as I have no confidence in aesthetically convert it like my forester fxt. The xv is aesthetically close to the vezel that I really think the designer for especially the rear lights should be shot .. it resembles a crying clown and more dated than stock forester. The vezel hybrid with led looks much much betta though the shape remains the same.

More importantly, I would not have even considered the fxt if not the 340nm 240bhp stock and the space.

Btw, HUGE success in getting the engine noise of our turbo and higher compression engine with the 3M thinsulate stuffed behind headunit, speedometer and most importantly from driver firewall up to dashboard. It is more quiet now than my merc e200 masterpeice if my memory serves me well.

Next onto solving last issue of firmness and felt bump of especially the rear suspension ... perhaps removing cusco rear arb for stock or removal of rear top beatrush strut.or both. Next tyres will surely not be 50 profile but 55 if not 60 but no wish to change to 5 set of tyres in last 5 mths since collection ... lol !

Cheers.

Richard

Congrats on achieving an even quieter cabin! Well done  [thumbsup]

Hi Yellobie,

More than welcomed as usual.

My thinking is that with your diy skill and attitude from the HU that you had done even 1st time, it will absolutely a piece of cake within 10s of minute for very uniform, bright and not glaring coblights for << sgd5 that modded led bulb can never acheive.

But yes, it is only a journey with no destination that any attempt can only make you more experienced that you cannot acheive by just talking about it like me .. keke !

Cheers.

Hi Richard,

Just bought the lights and switches  [:p]  Going to add lights for the bonnet!

The difficulties for newbies like me are knowing what materials are needed for even a simple project. Sometimes I overlook and miss out a part, and time are wasted on the dismantling lol. So for most projects, I actually had to dismantle panels twice or more times. First time is to check out and plan the installation, and the second time for the actual installation.

Thou over time I gain more experience and more tools, I will never have the scale similar to a car workshop. Thus diy is a slow process for me. Do a bit here, wait for parts, install, and the process repeat.

You can get things done much faster than I do, and your valuable experience comes from experiencing the products themselves. Thus I'm very thankful to you and all the fellow fozzies here who share their real life usage experiences.

Would love to sit in your FXT again if have the chance  [:p]

Here's an update to the Android HU that I installed. Had been playing around with it, and love it for it's customisation. Of course if you have been using Android phones for some time, this is nothing new. For me thou, it is something that I can work from, again! And this is how my home screen looks like now.

post-203223-0-92619300-1521979579_thumb.jpg

I always prefer a minimalist theme, so for now, this is what I think I need. My post thou, is not about the UI. It is to bring to attention this particular audio app.

The app is Neutron Music Player.

This app was my goto music player during the time when I'm using an Android phone as a music player. Somehow I prefer Neutron to PowerAmp, as Neutron have many adjustments you can play around. But the User Interface for Neutron is something that can be improved.

It had some nice improvements over the past year, and the feature that attracted me is Speaker Time Alignment. Click on this link to know more. Using this feature, I can actually hear some difference in the sound stage. The speakers position seems less obvious, and singer is more centred to the driver rather than the car.

post-203223-0-34343000-1521980762_thumb.jpg

Although this app can only control just left and right channels rather than all the speakers individually, it works like as a software DSP. And there are so many more adjustment you can make. The screens below are just a portion of what can be changed.

post-203223-0-37543100-1521980706_thumb.jpg

If you are using just the Android HU sound output, or doesn't have a physical DSP, why not give this app a try? You might be amazed by how much fun you can had. And the price is reasonable at around US$6. Furthermore you can use it for Android phones and tablets as well.

Cheers!

booked the NA version today and hopefully can get it in May.

SE offer me 1K for accessories, if not use than will offset the car price.

Offered me the BlackVue F/B camera($350) and also Door auto-lock after stepping on brake($180).

Are this 2 items worth to install in-house or should I do it outside?

The $350 blackvue is likely to be the lower spec one, you might want to check with SE.

I think MI is slightly more expensive than doing it outside, but.......... it saves you time. The moment you drive out of MI TPY, you will have recording enabled. No need to bring car to workshop to install those 2 things.

Hi Tryxx,

You might want to check out the Primacy SUV tyres if you're using stock 17" rims. I'm using them currently, size 225/65R17. They are bigger than the stock tyres (by 23mm diameter), but still slower than actual speed. You can refer to this post #12843 for more information when I got these tyres.

You can get them for $178 each from Yap Bros.

The blackvue is DR-590 2 channels.

But is the safety brake lock at $180 very expensive?

Did you install the blackvue front at Mi? What model is that?

Safety brake lock is door will auto lock after you step on the brake or moving off.

 DR-590 1 channel at MI.

Safety auto brake can install outside with lower price though!

Bro Chucky,

Haha .. for you, any time also can !!

Just contact me any of quiet nites with your address and I will fly to pick you at any corner of our little red dot for a spin.

However, stock damper and spring of my ride may not be your cup of tea since spoilt by you finely tuned cusco dampers .. keke !

You may also find a bit more oversteer cornering more aggressively due to added weight of SP and installed ICE in the rear.

Btw, Chong who met you and me with the cusco coilover gave up on getting the ride he wants and sold his 1 yr old Maroon fxt for an Audi A7 :(

Cheers.
