I don't drive a forester but I do check this thread occasionally cos my car also have a turbo, 1.6t only. Frankly I would buy the fxt today if I have not bought anything. It's good.

Amused by this fellow forummer whom spent a really long time deciding which car to buy. Then he decided to buy a na forester. After booking one, was persuaded by forummers that the turbo one better. Tried to change his order but rejected. Then tried funny ways to justify his purchase online. Interesting read.

I think many turbo newbies like myself all go through this phase where u hearsay about moving slowly on start and then after stop, and actually tried practicing it on getting the car. Then u realize this is really not applicable on 99.99% of your drives. The remaining 0.01% includes cases like you drove for 3h at 180km/h up north, pull into a petrol station and immediately switch off. Or go tracking. And then it is probably more of historical and modern turbo these days don't need.

Then there is the debate on reliability of having a turbo. Assuming a reliable brand like most Japanese, I think it is true base on theory. Whenever a module is more complicated or have more parts or is operated under more stress it should last shorter and have more random failures. The na forester probably have a life of 20 years while the turbo one is good for 18 years. So in local context, I think most forester owners will not even drive their car till 10 years scrap. Less reliable yes, but does it matter in local context? Summary, turbo cars are reliable.

For maintenance, my own experience is that I have yet to spend more money on maintenance vs the na version. And there is no evidence that it is going to change.

Oh, just to add, I have nothing against turbo or na cars, forester or not. Just buy the car you like. Everybody is diff just as cars are diff. But if you desire the turbo one, then just get it and have no regrets like I did. The maintenance, reliability and operating stuffs are really trivial.

Ya

once made your choice just move on.

I read that joker's post too, had a good laugh and brighten my Friday

I got mine at the Car Expo - non-guaranteed at $113.8k

But COE was lower than (57.5k). Is this guaranteed or non guaranteed? My SE told me I got my COE this week though.

When I signed the paper it was indicated as non-guaranteed, although the SE did assure me it was guaranteed as part of Car Expo promotion.

The fact that I got my COE this week confirmed the SE was right. My car is supposed to arrive later this month.

The latest price drop of $3k vs COE drop of $1k makes it tempting...

That's mean MI are expecting the COE to drop further.

I am still waiting. ..

MI is doing the last push to close the year ... hehe

I'm still quite curious why Singapore forester is even cheaper than cvr, RAV4, outlander, xtrail, cx5, sorento, tucson

But in other countries is other way around.

This is the first time I saw anybody so desperately and ridiculously insecure over his purchase of a car, not to mention the process of selecting a car.

Six Sigma? LOL, I didn't know organisations of any distinguishable scale still practice it. It's as relevant and 3.5 inch floppy disks in today's environment.

The Forester XT is an awesome car for its price-point. It's definitely topping my shopping list when I look at replacing my car next year.

wow.

i didn't know General Electric is considered a SME nowadays. lol

lucky i left.
