Agree. I just need a simple point A to B car without ASS complexity. What current models are available on the market that are ASS-less?

Lexus IS300

I'll press button to disable idle stop every time on my current car. I really hate it. :pissed-off:

The drive. 🤣

It’s just a point A to point B car. Don’t expect any driving pleasure.

I tell you a secret. My OC uses the car more than me.

Btw, I read somewhere mild hybrid also have no idle stop feature. Does that mean 2021 Mazda 3 is a viable option for me?

Mild hybrid should have idle stop feature.

Otherwise, it is pointless.

Some (all?) mild hybrid even turn off the engine during cruising. And they can cruise a long way several hundred metres or more) with the engine totally shut down. Not sure about M3.

In that case, mild cars are not for me.  [laugh]

I actually like the start-stop function on my Mazda 3 M-hybrid. With M-hybrid i feel it work better than those without. The start stop is smoother, barely any noise and delay when restarting from stop. Maybe the psychological effect that it helps to save a bit fuel works for me. For M-hybrid there is also a bit of regen braking build in to recharge the tiny M-hybrid batt that powers electronics within (No sure if AC power is included).

I press the off button switch to disable it too. Haha. ASS is bad for engine mounts

I think mild hybrid does not need a starter motor.

The electric motor is used to move the car from stand still

until the car is moving and then the ICE takes over.

So you don't get the noise and shudder on engine start up.

:D

I think many isnt aware the alternator car makers are using has more functions now. It actually takes over the function as a starter motor (starter-motor still there to do what it does) when the start stop is activated eg. when the lights turn green and the brake pedal is released. And it also has a regen function when the car is slowing or braking to recharge the lead acid battery(non hybrid cars) or the hybrid battery.

For my current car the crank pulley is powering only 2 things via the serpentine belt, the aircon compressor and the alternator....that's it. Even the water pump has gone electric. For older cars the water pump used to be a mechanical pulley run by the serpentine belt that draws power from the crank pulley. Same for the power steering hydraulic system. All these parts have been converted to be powered by electricity.

Due to more car parts relying on electrical power eg. parts I mentioned above, dashboard used to be analog rather than a screen that runs on electric power, safety sensing sh!t all running on eletric power...that the mild hybrid system has become a necessity.

So when your new type of alternator goes up lorry it will cost you a bomb to replace it.

For luxury models, buyers are more concern about features, comfort and performance, than maintenance cost. So maybe the manufacturers can justify designing it that way.

However, I feel that following such design trend is not going to help the bread-and-butter models in the long run where consumers are more concern with running cost.

By then, car would have been changed.
