RS Chip Tuning

Been slightly over a year since I've installed the RSChip into my A3 sportsback at Monster Tune. Did a dyno before and after installation. There was a significant difference in terms of Bhp and Torque numbers. Because the A3 is a TC car, the actual performance was also vastly different.

I noticed that it was a piggy back plugged into my OBD port and can be removed and installed easily.

The original A3 came with 122 Bhp and 200 NM of torque from 1750 rpm. After installation, it showed 156 Bhp and 267NM of torque on the dyno. FC wise, on manufacturer's brochure it stated 20km/l but I can only achieve 17km/l at most on the KPE before the installation. After installation, 19.8km/l was achievable on the same stretch at the same speed.

Only thing I noticed is that if you always drive conservatively, I suspect that this chip will go to sleep. Besides myself, my wife also drives the car. After she has driven the car and once I took over, noticed that I had to floor the accelerator more often for the first few KM before the "improved performance" comes back up.

For my A3, normal day to day driving is improved and you don't have to floor the accelerator to get up to the stipulated speed limit. Taking off from the traffic light is also much better.

On the NS highway, really had to exercise discipline to stay within the speed limit as the car is constantly screaming for more. Or when some idiot comes from behind when you didn't notice and start flashing at you, you are tempted to floor the accelerator and leave that proton preve smelling your exhaust as you pull away.

Hi Chia,

A3 is supercharged or turbo ? The rschip you installed is the reportedly new rschip for turbo via obd ? If yes, pls advise details of installer cos hope to use it in my qasqhai 1.2 turbo. Tks in advance. Richard

Hi Richard,

It's turbo. I did mine at monster tune located at kaki bukit. You can find their profile on google, facebook and even here in SGcarmart.

Look for Alvin or Nick.

They will uninstall for you whenever you need to go back to the AD for servicing and reinstall again after servicing for free. Or you can learn how to plug in and plug out and DIY.

monster tune is more on custom tuning

why go for a piggyback with MT?

how much was the whole RS chip tuning package with MT?

I thk rs chip is only for NA cars.

I believe they have a remap for TC as well. I was told that the chip has to be pre-programmed with the ecu map meant for a particular car before installation.

Found their profile on the net, so went to them and made some enquiries after I got my car in Dec 2014. It was about $800 and it was not a plug and play. The map had to be specifically tailored for the A3.

1 yr ago....am quite sure it is only for NA. I know the monster guys so kinda surprised they fit a RSC on your A3. the price also not match. anyw they have their own tuning box too...but well good tat you are enjoying the gains! [drivingcar]

Hey Chia,

Thanks for the info and great if indeed some earlier prototype of e turbo that you are having. Without boost changes to the turbo, dun think you can get the dyno performance increase.

However, I tot this is obd which I am after and it would be simply to pull the module out and not needing to go back to MT installer to do so before servicing at AD ?

Tks again.

Richard

I didn't know what it was till 28 Dec, last week, when I took it back to them to uninstall as I needed to service my vehicle.

When they did the install in Dec 2014, it took quite a while but I wasn't around for the whole process except for the Dyno before and after.

When they took it out last week that's where I saw the RSC box and saw that MT created a loom so that it can be plugged into the obd underneath the dashboard.

However, they had an incompetent worker that dismantled my ecu from the engine compartment, which was totally unnecessary as the ecu wasn't reprogramed. Furthermore the "warranty void" sticker was broken, which got me mad. Nick told me it was ok as can deny and attribute it to wear and tear of the sticker in the engine compartment. He said that the AD cannot pinpoint what was done as the ecu was untouched. Went to AD for servicing and they didn't say anything. Now got to pray the ecu don't break down, otherwise they won't honor the warranty.

Alvin did tell me that the Map is for this A3. In China, the A3 is specc'ed at 150 Bhp and 250nm of torque, the Q3 in Singapore is that spec too with the same engine, so I guess there is really an alternative Map that Audi uses for the same 1.4 TFSI engine.

To answer Richard's question, Alvin did say that it was easy to plug in and plug out and can DIY. Now that I saw how they did it and where it is, I know what to do now.

it could be.....guess only he knows....but my experience is I don't like such chips...I thk modern car ecu are much more dynamic these days.....only a proper remap can alter the performance permanently.

servicing they wont open ecu....jus plug in check error codes, see no increment in flash counter and no ecu flash codes, that's it, car deem as stock untouched.

VbChia, thanks again.

I am scheduled to install in mid Jan 2016 at Fongkim for the rschip turbo obd version. Had been waiting since Dec 2015 and hence the queries. Hope it is an alternative via obd as compared to racechip ultimate on sam qashqai 1.2l turbo that I had tried and surely power !!!

Cheers.

they will always know if the car has been tuned since stock engines will never achieve such high boost levels

whether they can prove it so as to invalidate the warranty is another matter

since sticker no longer intact, i suggest you just forgo the warranty and go all out to mod whatever you wish

no need to visit PA anymore

ya bro...even if the tuner offer to tune back to stock map before you send in, your ecu flash counter will stil show an increment and a "TD1" error code...this is enough to confirm car WAS tuned.... [smash]

If need to claim warranty, say on gearbox, they will definitely check the ECU. If they find out that it was tuned or tampered with, think it will be hard to get them to honor the warranty.

If i drive an Audi,i will go for the "MTM" reflash offered by Agent, boost power, won't void warranty & peace of mind.
