Any files saved in Open Office in .doc form will still have alignment issues when opened in MS Office.

 

If you are using the doc for internal circulation and aesthetics are not a priority, Open Office can do the job.

However if you are circulating this with clients or 3rd parties who are using MS Office and aesthetics/presentation are important, try to avoid OOffice and get MS Office.

I don't know what is your budget. If you must acquire MS Office, its not terribly expensive in my opinion if you get the home version...Afterall you said its a OMO.

Open Office, at the end of the day, its free. Can't really complain.

If you have a family member working in an MNC, it is likely that they are eligible to purchase a license for about 15 dollars. They can check if they are eligible thru this website.

Technically this license is for their own use only though... And you are supposed to delete it when you leave your company.

Yes for document such as invoices etc even flyers with tech specifications I always email them in PDF formate to prevent buyers / potential customers and my competitors from alternating the specification and descriptions.

Anything that is "foreign" to MS when open with full version MS software, it's a bloody mess. This includes even MS own like those from Windows Phone, online MS documents....
