what happen to Amos then?? [laugh][laugh]

Don't know. Lol.

I worry some teachers literally teach less and go home early..

Under current system of "teach less learn more" they are already bring work hope daily and work very late.

i suppose from where you come from

the children are allowed to write about elves, hobbits, dwarves, wizards, goblins, ogres etc

:D

ALLOWED?

REQUIRED would be more accurate [thumbsup][wave]

Just kidding -

But seriously - from what I can remember (it was 30 years ago) while we might have been given starter sentences or pictures, we were more encouraged to write about what "moved or inspired" us (for story writing)

With the marking being based on story construction, grammar, use of adjectives, consistency etc etc

yeah...

teaching the kids to conform to the formula already --- that's what hits me the most...

I find the moralising in all of the picture compositions quite heavy handed, but that one can roll with the punches - so long as they don't mark down the kid that takes the contrary position

Writing about killing a boy is not about just creative anymore.

Because school also have the responsibilities to teach good moral??

gahmen approved moral... selective pickings of Confucian morals. damn they had to take away parts that offended the feminists.

My O-leber English compo developed into a swashbuckling adventure in Africa, involving diamond smuggling and mysterious tribes.

Ended up I was the only person to score a 1 for O-leber English in the entire school (yeah it was a pretty crap school). Even my stut stut nerdy classmates who were expected to do as well didn't live up to expectations.

You think those O-level angmoh markers wanna read the same old formulaic crap over and over and over?

I also pulled one of those "suddenly she got run over by a car, the end." stunts during regular compo classwork but my teacher just laughed. My English teachers were never worried about me. I used to blast through the English exam papers and since I couldn't leave the exam hall in the first hour or whatever I'd write up articles or poems (gaaaay) for the school newletter and submit them with my exam paper when I was finally released.

Unfortunately, they do... and we created Famous Amos indirectly... to me this is a form of "unseen" bullying in school. Students must learn what they are taught, and when they "challenge" they are incorrigible.

I tend to believe that some kids are more inquisitive, imaginative than others, they explore ideas and believe in fairies e.g. tooth fairies... but when in school, they face the fact of no fairies, no dogs can fly, elephant is never pink in colour etc... We created logical people who analyse data and hold on to statistics as their "bible"... Again good and bad...

Learning language can be fun but they took the fun out and give it a "serious" content...

Don't get hung up on the violence -

All I was suggesting was that do something unexpected. Buck the formula

In all these stories the boy gets saved just in time ...

Violence bucks the trend - but there are many other ways...

I didn't sit down and think through - we were chitchatting walking behind the MSCP rushing home for dinner...

You should read Stephen King - "Full Dark, No Stars"

Damn freaking scary and creative -

and a great commentary on "the human condition"

I think some of his books are really ready for study in lit classes....

By then the creativity will be squeezed out - and she will be a worker drone

what happen to Amos then?? [laugh][laugh]

Amos thought too highly of himself and he felt that he was too "talented" to conform with the school system... and he strayed because he was the higher "being" compared to his classmates...
