Hmmmm............ once a while, must 'under-table' a bit .... [lipsrsealed]

Once in a while is an understatement.........There's this co-worker who does nothing but just help boss buy 4D, kopi, dog food, etc, etc but still get promotion after utilizing all MCs year after year.

That's definitely not once in a while [furious]

now school emphasizes on moral, diligence, kindness, graciousness. the compo would likely to be passing such a message.

there r certain rules to certain "games". so the rule of the compo here is "see picture do compo"; only part left to imagination i think would be the "in-between" sequences.

want creativity perhaps should sign up for creative writing / attend art class, unless next compo is continue compo with a given starting / ending paragraph.

Oops. The calligrapher is MiFu. Noted scholar in the Song dynasty. It is a poem written to honor Wang xizhi.

I only know the tang dynasty poet becoz he was excellently protrayed by stephen chow.

My sprog is in Primary 5, for the first time so far - last night I was truly disappointed in the school system.

By and large, I find the schools are doing a pretty decent job - so far the education has been going pretty well, I haven't always agreed with what they teach. But hey, I don't need to - they have been doing it rather well.

Last night, chatting with the kid - it is the first time I have been seriously upset at what they are doing.

Just had the "Chinese Composition" exam for first semester, and we were chit chatting about what she wrote.

Apparently they were given picture prompts - about a boy bullying his grandma, running into the road and almost getting run over.

Well ok, putting aside the rather ham fisted and heavy handed moralising - we talked about what she said next...

I suggested a story line of...

Seeing the boy in danger, Superman came flying out of the sky, and stopped the car just in time, lifting it up to protect the boy. But then, when he found out what had happened, he said "Nah - you don't deserve to be rescued" where upon he dropped the car onto the boy, turning him into ketchup.

Crotch spawn informed me that if she wrote that, she would be marked down for "going out of context" - WTF?????

Out of context?

No wonder the kids are so boring - they have to tell a predictable and "moral" story -

In my day, we were encouraged to try and shock / surprise the teacher.

Not write stories to some freaking boring formula!!!

Blardy hell - how to move forward like that?

Superman then flew towards the grandma and said to her "This is what you deserve for bringing up such an ill-mannered brat". Superman then proceeded to pummel grandma until she turned into a pool of ketchup too. The watching crowd clapped their hands and cheered at the justice that has been rightly served.

It's true. Too much unnecessary morals these days. Bad for the kids' creativity.

compared to the COE quota system, the school system is a godsend guys. remember that. whenever you think life is bad, think about people trying to buy a new car. you cant be THAT bad.

Maybe give the sheep a special treat?

A white packet is considered inauspicious but if you eschew the lube, you might end up giving away a red packet after all.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

sad to say the education system is a political tool that is used to maintain status quo and ensure conformity, obedience and serf-like unquestioning compliance.

It never really was about bona fide personal growth and learning as an inquiring mind is a sure sign of intelligence and there should be no limits placed on this.

There are always arguments for and against how we do things, but I think what is important is that we must know how to evolve, especially in a world that is ever changing, and indeed very different from LKY's time.

Yes, having some order and conformity helps with efficiency, but there also has to be some leeway for the other side (creativity). Nowadays successful people are not simply those who work hard and listen and follow orders. Creativity is required to come up with solutions, to think of things that other people don't think about. If all we're churning out are kids who merely follow and have a one-track mind and cannot think out of the box, we end up falling behind with a population of robots as contrasted to real 21st century leaders who come up with successful ideas and solutions for tomorrow's world.

Creativity is a mindset to be cultivated. It's not an on-off switch.

Need not worry about what is being taught in school. What matter most is that your kids enjoy the process, even to the extend of challenging the teachers on the way of thinking creatively.

The world is no longer about learning the "fixed" way. To get rich, you must be out of the conformed system which the super rich dictates.

Well, yeah! That's the point! If someone could tell this to my teachers, it would be great. But they don't appreciate any freethinking.

Well... wait till they meet bosses.. and politicians..
