I will get a mac mini, add in recycled monitor, keyboard and mouse. It's good to go from $688. Huat arh!!!

Modern mac renders web pages better than IE. And since you already got existing Windows softwares, just run bootcamp if needed.

Anytime need to "run road", unplug mac mini and run with it (smaller and lighter than lappy). Can leave the less important parts behind.

Hello To All Computer Gurus, I am currently looking for a Lenovo AIO computer for my home office use. I am a armchair mech and online salesman and therefore know very little on how to go about selecting computers for my one-man small home business.

All feedback and advice will be much welcome.

TIA

Im not too sure about desktop but for laptop, lenovo is definetly a good choice. Im using Z470 laptop for personal use and X220 for the work use (previously using X60). These machine is built to last, especially the X series. It a workhorse where it can even run in an extreme condition . I ever keep it inside outdoor equipment box at over 60 deg celcius ambient temp to collect data for more than 4 hours and its still running.....

Dell onsite repair is one of the best.

But not sure what machines offer it anymore.

Used to be only their dell lattitude laptop series.

Dell onsite repair is one of the best.

That means it breaks down a lot?

Sounds like they get a lot of practice

and that's why they are so good.

I have a Lenovo B540. 23" HD screen. More than three years liao. Sent in once to have the display replaced. Great for watching HD video and DVDs. Product's generally OK but online and phone support is terrible. No local support team -- based in Malaysia.

Bought one early last year, giving me a lot of issues. Definitely will not be getting back the same brand

The reason why I turned to Dell.

Many years ago, I bought my dell Desktop. After warranty, I had some issues and called their hotline, surprising they entertained me and provided me the solution. I also understand this may be just one off and highly dependent on the customer service person's mood to entertain or not.

I then switched over to the near highest model HP desktop computer available that time got Blu-ray read and write. Recently after automatic update from HP server, my desktop went black. Everything working but no display output. Did everything and anything but did not work. So I called HP centre and they said they will help and can be solved but I need to wait for their return which is a call centre from god knows where and suspect it is from China. But call did not come through. Then after a week, I called again same thing and they promise this time by the technician and not receptionist that someone will call me. Again nobody called. I wondered if they think i would go away in frustration.

Then I bought a new HP printer which is mid-range to print photos. They wrote and specify that photo tray takes standard 4R with measuresment. HP photo 4R paper very hard to buy even Harvey Norman and Popular also dont have. I bought a lot of Canon 4R paper but cannot fit. I called service and still under warranty as it was only a month or so after purchase. They told me no choice but need to buy HP paper because they are a bit smaller than the standard size which fit their printer tray. I told them I cant find. They said they can send to me but will charge me. I said OK but they want to charge me 2 x the price of Canon photo paper. Face palm.

Totally disappointed with HP.

Switch back to Dell because most desktop currently dont have the i7 8th generation and I do need a replacement desktop. I have already ordered and will update on their delivery and service standards.

Hope others can contribute too, Thank you,

My previous few ink was Canon.

Then I chose Epson because of the ink tank.

My next will likely be Canon.

I seem to be paying the price for choosing Epson - every one or two weeks, I must remember to print something. [laugh]

I don't go for HP because of their tray where the paper need to make a U-turn.

Now I see they have gravity feed - not sure how good.

I am curious how come consumer council never look into printer ink cost.

printer ink cartridge, each can cost more than the printer itself

if third party can sell for less than 1/3 of the original cost

even though HP said they remove software to deny third party cartridge, it is still blocking

when you try to inject 3rd party ink into original cartridge, the cartridge miraculously can't function, even if it is filled up full, printer reports cartridge empty

I use to print on Epson but with the colour cartridge, if one colour empty, the entire cartridge cannot be use even if the other colours are full. you cannot use the other colours to print mono colour.

if you work out for a few ml of ink can be more expensive than .......

With ink tank, my concern is no longer with the ink cartridge but with the printhead and waste ink reservoir.

The reason why I am still having the Epson is because the ink tank is more than half full for black and the 3 colours.

Under warranty, the printhead and the waste ink reservior was change - despite I use less than 500 pages (IIRC).

Get a Mac mini or iMac, install Windows OS if you really need it.

Windows 10 will break everything every time there's an update and there's little you can control over it.

I would just stick to a Mac.
