Mr Lee Kuan Yew wanted Oxley Road home demolished

Many places and buildings have more historical values in the past. Why aren't these places preserved too? Or is it double standards for the sake of own political agendas?

By demolishing this house, it takes an equal stand that he probably wants to prove that everyone is equal in terms of land acquisition and redevelopment.

Why would he keep on emphasizing on demolishing the house, even to the public, for so many times when he was alive? Because he knows this will happen, people after his death will use the house in favor of themselves instead of demolish it, move on and instead look into the real problems of the country.

If a leader can't even uphold the real values of the older generation leaders, fulfill even a simple request of these older leaders which does not really affect the country as a whole, how much integrity of this leader still has?

No integrity to speak of

Public interest is for the house to be demolished.

Without looking at any fake surveys, I dare say that you are in the minority.

I used to support demolishing the house but my Wife convinced me its better to keep it...

U can always demolish it later after keeping it, but u cannot keep it after demolishing it.

I really think making it into a museum is good for the public, given the historic significance of the place. I think everyone agrees that lky wanted it to be demolished. The point of discussion is whether we should follow his wishes. I say no.

If that is the case, there will be and should have been many buildings in the past that should not be demolished.

It's not the significance of the physical monuments that will teach us the history, but the values behind to be remembered as history.

It’s precisely the system your founding Lao peh put in place what, so when his son use it against him, he also lan lan.

Remind me of another father and son story, the son got to die for the sins of men because that’s the law the father put in place.

Don't worry...

PA will have many many top class aircons bus to send everyone there as part of national duty..

.. with abalone porridge in bus meal.

And in flight entertainment of lhl crying and praising his father, saying how lky actually secretly told him he wanted to preserve Oxley, how the whole Will was fake, how the house was meant for eldest son etc etc.

Holy father... Thy will be done.

heard over the radio program where this was discussed by various news editor.

apparently they interviewed the lawyer involved and it was reported that it might not be LKY that drafted the will but he would not go on to say more out of confidentiality issue.

No la.

hl is eldest son.

Which is why it VERY strange that lhl wasn't the executor of lky will.

And what sparked speculations of maybe lky choose people he trusted to carry his will.

Which is rather ridiculous.

Next they will say lky didn't personally write it, transfer it to Microsoft word, turn on the pc, set up the printer, print it on A4 paper blah blah blah.

And I bet his assets list is probably several Excel spreadsheets long.. who compiled and updated it?

The only dam fact is that lky agreed to it.

Of cos some minor wannabes did dare suggest he was senile?

So does all the grandpas that owned land in singapore - to keep it within the family.

And many people are persuaded by that - that respect for LKY - and of course not many have their land possessions taken away.

But remember the law of the land. The Gov has a right to take. Public interest is defined by gov, not the public.

Here, the Oxley dining room has historical value and preserving it as a remainder for posterity is very fair, from gov perspective.

Many people may want to take anti-LHL stand and thwart his plan but here, he is really acting as how a PM should be thinking, albeit the process have antagonised his siblings.

Demolish is a no-go and I think the gov of the day will think like me. We wait and see. But I will not wait - evict LWL now.   [:p]

Your argument so flawed. What historical value? Other than it is a place that LKY stayed in, it held no other value to me. I have never in my life went into that house nor even pass by that road. Have you visited the place?

There are so many other places of value that people were attached to that were torn down and demolished for the purpose of redevelopment.

There are museums that showcase buildings, cultures and historical facts, Oxley could be too. Nobody needs to preserve the place to remember it. The important rooms just need to be replicated at a museum somewhere to teach the next generation what happened and have the facts recorded in history books, like all the other history.

I think they are trying to say that it has historical value because a lot of impt meetings relating to our nation building happpened there. Historical value is not the same as people attachment. The ford factory in Bukit Timah for example. There is nothing at all about that place other than the fact that the brits surrendered there. I personally am undecided whether those meetings will give the place historical value, but can see some people may reasonably think otherwise.

And replica will never be the same as the real thing. 300 years later, people will hope to have the real thing rather than a replica.

It’s like the dragon tooth stone at the Sg harbor that the brits blew up, would be great if the real thing is still there.

The will has been confirmed by court le.

If lawyers say all these, does it mean that these lawyers is guilty of contempt of court?

Please respect Last will and testament of LKY.

Kick LWL out & tear the place down.

This Will is not just a family matter in my opinion. whether this house has historical value or not, i am also not concern. I am most concerned is, what lhy claimed and the involvement of so many key ministers which among others was what the cliam is about.
