Correct me if i`m wrong... Carens :

Petrol 2.0L variant using conventional 6 speeder GB,

Diesel 1.7L variant using DCT 7 speeder.

Yes, only diesel version using DCT.

One of the main attraction for me is the torque that the diesel engine brings, also the skyroof, bigger rim etc, that only the SX variant have.

Thanks for clarifying.

For someone like me who travels less than 15000km per year, guess my pick would be the petrol variant, as i can't justify paying the higher road tax and $10k difference between SX Diesel and petrol.

Wonder what is the servicing costs for a Diesel..think CnC gives 3 years free servicing?

Going to the showroom to look see soon, my COE expires this Oct...

Turbocharged

My take is simple, dual clutch needs a few more years to mature before it can reach auto gb kind of realibility .. Imagine even Honda can have multiple recall on their hybrid vezel due to dual clutch gb, I won't dare to touch it just yet for sure...

Agree... not say cannot touch but don't expect it to be as refined as the normal auto gearbox.

If petrol Carens is OK, then you are probably in the buying season as they are adv. hard to sell off its YOM 15 stock.

Someone here mentioned the petrol version will be discontinued after that. Not sure.,

There is probably a future issue with petrol car, with such a low cost crude, we generally did not enjoy much saving due to the increase in Petrol duty in FY2015.

With O&G bankruptcy at high not seen after 2009, a new known issue arise.

A recently report states that investment to replenish spent oil well is at 75%. That means for every 100 old well shut, there is 75 new well replacement.

The current supply glut should be over by 2018.

Then as the usual history repeat, a oil shock will come. Again, it is just a possible risk. And current there are only about 6K diesel car on the road.

As for me, I probably go try out the Mazda 5 too, compression ratio 14:1, 2L and a non-DCT GB.

Isn't the Mazda 5 an old design? It's not the latest right like the 3, 6? Not sure... just asking.

I would think that the current petrol Carens (6 Speeder) is a better buy compared to Diesel Carens which is now more expensive due to increase popularity.

Not sure too, but if it can sell about 100 units every month, cannot be that bad.

Also not much complain on the web, it is the ultra lean GDI that attract me.

Look see mode. And trying not to buy on impulse ..... heeee...

Based on  CO2 and weight, the FC should be on the high side but better than my 191g/km Carens (UN).

C&C only sold 84 KIA MPV last year.

For Jan, 9P3D Carens, For Feb, 2P8D Carens.

Anyway, I don't think it is a KIA issue, at least I am currently driving a Carens and did NOT need to repair GB EVERY 2 YEARS.

I find KIA surprisingly OK, not much issue except ABS, Airbag, which is minor, I can even fixed it myself. Which I did.

And thanks all the bro and sis here for bringing up the DCT issue.  I can't afford this kind of reliability schedule lor.

But internet said, KIA ownself design the DCT GB, and the 7DCT is the second design after the 6DCT ?? Not sure. As of today, no reported issue.

Look see mode.  Still got time ... not in the hurry to spend ... heeee

Totally understand the impulse thing... :)

Hi All

So it not advisable to get the diesel version isit. Anyone have any view on the Orlando 1.4 turbo.

I don't think that is the general sentiment. Rather, it is advisable that you take the test drive personally and have a feel for the car itself and its the same for the Orlando as well. Nothing beat trying out the car than purely reading and reading the forum itself.

Once you are done with that, do factor in the diesel road tax plus the diesel fuel cost and count into your annual driving pattern to derive the annual cost of running. From there, you can probably see whether the diesel version works in your favor or not.

I glad you ask, Mazda and Chevy are just next to each other.  Can test-drive in 1 go. My concern are :

a) How did a 1.4L car end up in CAT B

b) Is the door still that heavy

c) Is the tyres profile common.

As a matter of facts, Kah, Borneo, C&C are there too.  Give a try.

Anyway, try to buy a Mercedes SLK today, was told my favourite colour is sold out.  Left with Pink and Black.  Stock available this Friday onwards.

test drive both, kia diesel has a better drive but orlando has much cheaper running cost. but i was told that orlando not that reliable. i am clocking around 25000km annually thus cant decide which one.

Mazda interior lack behind both this car in my view thus i did not test drive that.

If you do drive 25,000 km per year, you will definitely benefit from driving a diesel instead of petrol car.

Lets do some simple math using car maker spec (I know its debatable but good enough to some analysis)

KIA Carens:

- Total Fuel Required = 25000km / 19.2 km/L = 1302 liters

- Total Fuel Cost = 1302 liters x S$1.07/L = $1,393

- Road Tax = $1,518

- Total Cost = $2,911

Chevy Orlando:

- Total Fuel Required = 25000km / 14.1 km/L = 1,773 liters

- Total Fuel Cost = 1773 liters x S$1.89/L = $3,351

- Road Tax = $604

- Total Cost = $3,955

A cool savings of $1,044 per year.... thats the calculation my brother and I ran to decide on the family car. Also, he really likes the finishing of the KIA Carens and the savings shown above seals the deal for him.

Orlando is petrol or diesel?

If petrol, then Carens Diesel will be paying  much higher road tax per year.
