Spring Moderator February 16, 2016 Share February 16, 2016 The new 1.7 CRDi engine isn't very worth while to get... the road tax is pretty high while the diesel saving isn't as much if you don't drive a lot... so you need to do a total cost calculation before you decide on diesel or petrol. For 1.5l diesel, the extra road tax is under $50 per mth so 1.7l shld be abit more. Diesel gives you approx. 30% better mileage on average and diesel cost is 45% cheaper than RON 95 ($1 vs $1.82)** You can do the sums yourselves based on your mileage incurred. **Figures are based on my usage when I changed from petrol 1.6l to diesel 1.5l based on 80 City/20 highway usage. The annual road tax is 1542 vs 786. Diff is 756. If 1 mth you drive ard 2000km, with carens fc of 17km/l, you will pump ard 117l, costing $117. A petrol mpv will require 200l as typical fc is 10km/l,costing $364. So you will save $247/mth. Just 3 mths and you will start benefiting. Jeffc 5th Gear February 16, 2016 Share February 16, 2016 Is it just me or there aren't any Kia Carens on the road at all? I have only seen 1 in the past 10 days. How about you guys? Seen at least 30 Wishes though. You will see them on the road, if SiverCab will to order them for their fleet.

Donald83 1st Gear February 16, 2016 Share February 16, 2016 (edited) **Updated** Diesel price to $1, instead of $1.86 Doesn't seem much of a savings to me as im comparing with my Civic. In fact it will cost more after factoring road tax and servicing. I clock 1,000 km per mth. Carens Diesel FC only 17kn/l ? I clock 1,000 km per mth. Carens Diesel FC only 17kn/l ? 1k per mth mileage is abit low to enjoy diesel benefits. Ideally should be more than 20k per year. I'm not sure of Carens FC but avg of 17km/l if on 50/50 Highway/City is OK IMO. Those guys getting close to 20km/l likely to be on 90/10 Highway/City at least as start/stop traffic will not give you good FC neither petrol nor diesel.
Donald83 1st Gear February 16, 2016 Share February 16, 2016 Sorry i made a mistake in Diesel price. Updated already So savings will be around $1.1k per year if i switch from Civic 1.6l (getting 12km/litre petrol) to Carens DIesel (expected 17km/l) I thought i saw other diesel models can get 20+km/litre??
Ozkaki 2nd Gear February 16, 2016 Share February 16, 2016 I doubt caren petrol can give 17km per l. Likely about 11 to 14 for most.

That's super high mileage... that's why I said unless you clock more than 1500 km a month, it's not very worth as the road tax is really high. Sorry i made a mistake in Diesel price. Wait long long in our kind of driving conditions... my dad's Renault Fluence 1.5 L turbodiesel can only clock 17 km/L. On good days, barely touching 19 km/L... 20+ is what the car companies quote you... that's under ideal load and driving circumstances... ideal = constant speed, zero acceleration and decelerations under load... who drives like that in Singapore? I doubt caren petrol can give 17km per l. Likely about 11 to 14 for most. 10-12 km/L is more realistic for petrol... as long as you run a 2.0 L engine, that's the range you're going to get if you don't do more than 70% highway. Another cost to factor in is the higher price of diesel SX over petrol. About $3-5K more. If drive over 10 yrs, another $300-500 / yr.
