QQDreamer 4th Gear April 5, 2015 Share April 5, 2015 Hi All, Does a weak radiator fan/ motor cause the car to overheat? My car radiator fan is running, however after about 30mins of driding the temp will go up more than half gradually. And when moving, it will sometimes come down depends. Usually stop sometimes the temp willdo down. Is it radiator "choke"? or water pump faulty or thermostat? Any bros can advise or have similar experience before. ↡ Advertisement

High and low. feel the wind speed of the fan with the air con turned on, if its not the "forceful" type, probably the fan is kaput.

High and low. feel the wind speed of the fan with the air con turned on, if its not the "forceful" type, probably the fan is kaput. the fan is still running.. but sometimes when i turn to no.2 ( as mine have 4 speed) the fan dun run i need to knock knock than fan start to turn. when aircon cuts , the fan stops, when aircon kicks in its not running ( by right should run) but other speed like 3 and 4 is ok it is running yesterday i did a pressure test at workshop. no sign of leaking. i wonder if is it the thermostat or water pump thats not working or the radiator is choke. Hamburger Hypersonic April 5, 2015 Share April 5, 2015 is your air con cold? some car would deactivate the fan to slower speed if there is not enough freon gas in the system. that again, if you needed to knock, high chance your fan is about to kaput.

Tigershark1976 Turbocharged April 5, 2015 Share April 5, 2015 (edited) by the way anyone knows where got sell radiator fan motor? your stockist should carry that. My Vios radiator fan coil cost $80 if I remember correctly. Other Japs/ Korean car should cost around the same range. Change thermostat first. It's probably the cause. I experience twice, overheat due to thermostat.
Watwheels Supersonic April 6, 2015 Share April 6, 2015 Most electric fans have a pair of 1/2 carbon bush that will wear over time. Once they are worn the fan will not work at its optimum speed.
Nikeair 1st Gear April 6, 2015 Share April 6, 2015 Yes, I had the same problem as well. The carbon bush for the fan has worn out. Sometimes when you knock the fan, it will jump back to life. Just change the entire fan just to be safe incase you get stuck at custom. (infact I did get stuck at custom)
flashbang Turbocharged April 6, 2015 Share April 6, 2015 Check if coolant level is correct first, as this is the easiest step and free. If overheating continues even when you have the right amount of coolant, then you know something else is wrong.

Hope this helps ok noted. im thinking like wise to replace both also. Change thermostat first. It's probably the cause. I experience twice, overheat due to thermostat. thermostat is ok. cos if thermostat no open, the lower radiator pipe wont even be hot at all. but the lower radiator pipe is hot after it is warm up. Yes, I had the same problem as well. The carbon bush for the fan has worn out. Sometimes when you knock the fan, it will jump back to life. Just change the entire fan just to be safe incase you get stuck at custom. (infact I did get stuck at custom) that sounds scary.. stuck at custom and overheat... i understand your feel. Yeobh 4th Gear April 8, 2015 Share April 8, 2015 (edited) A very simple and fast way to check for cooling system high temp location (s) is to us a non-contact infra-red thermometer. PS Even when the thermostate is in close position , the coolant will still flow via a small by-pass hose to the radiator.
