Best to pump till full and take km travelled divide by litres consumed.

Agreed, the most 90% accurate....those windscreen FC label on new cars even worse [furious] ,can trust only 50%..can NEVER get it on S'pore Roads.

The A3 ECU is pretty accurate. I am on my 3rd tank since collecting car and the ECU cummalative avg said 17.8km/l with avg speed 37km/h. This compared quite close with the manual pump reading calc avg of 2 tanks at 17.3km/l Edited by zerobim08

Yours mostly highways or at least 70% right? Others here maybe 50/50 or 60/40 so they can't achieve your figures one even if same ride.

I think you have to qualify what highway mean. Yes I am on e-way 70% to get 17.3km/l but it is still mostly peak hour slow traffic. But I agree you won't get my figure if you are in city with lots of start stop traffic light and crawl speed.

I am pretty sure the a3 could really get 20-22 km/l (as in manufacturer spec) when doing real highway driving like nshw. In UK forums for the same car people are claiming the 55 to 60 miles per gallon as well on e-way.

Those figures like 20km/L is attainable but not realistic. Most people here include 50-60% of city driving.. this sort of driving usually gives 6-9km/L.

There was once I started and drove from ECP until West Coast Park and my FC reading was 23.2km/L because totally no city driving at all, even when the highway was moderate traffic.

So people need to learn to take these figures with a pinch of salt lor, don't blur blur go believe everyone can get these kind of FC. It depends on home and office location and distance from highways.

Btw, your A3 wasn't "detuned" to get 122-125bhp. That is the max the factory tuner can get from that engine cap and single small turbocharger and get it to operate within designs specifications. Unless of course you go for ECU remap, that's a different story.

Not going to debate what is realistic or not. Like you say it depends a lot on the person driving style and traffic conditions.

For me the reality is I can get 16-17 km/h with this car for my travelling profile (which I think is shared by many others i.e from home drive to nearest entry into e-way then exit from e-way to your place of work). Just for comparison my previous 1.6L car got 11-12km/l on the same travelling profile. I am pretty impressed with how frugal the a3 is.

Maybe my choice of word is wrong but I saw there is another choice for the same 1.4L engine for A3 which gives 150hp instead of 125hp.

A3 is 1.4T or 2.0T petrol turbo.. yours is 1.4T with 122/125 bhp, single turbocharger, no supercharger. 140/150bhp should be twincharger in Jetta sports / Scirocco, I don't think that's in the new A3. New A3 have 2.0T diesel which I drove overseas and it had 150bhp, not available in SG though (I think). So yours isn't detuned, just for your info, don't be mistaken.

But I saw in the A3 brochure there is another 1.4L engine which has 150hp (not available in singapore). It is not twin/super but just turbo charged engine. If I am not mistaken this engine is used in the entry level Q3 (selling in Singapore).

150 Bhp will be with Cat B COE,more expensive [bigcry] ...OMV also higher than the "below 20,000 class",subject to higher taxes if bring in.

That's why I think the 125hp version is a tuned down of the 150hp specifically cater for this market. Doesn't make sense if it is 2 different 1.4L design. Wondering whether it would be easy to retune the 125 to 150hp (not that I will do it since it is illegal)

Btw: the A3 sold here omv is already $27k.

Yummy but may have afterbitter taste.

There no problem buying the A1 but I still don't trust the 7spd s-tronic or dsg gearbox. If only they had manual.

I am not sure about that. However the 1.4L 125bhp version is meant for frugality, not for power. Probably also for local market to keep it within Cat A. However, if you do MTM stage 1 tuning, you can get the additional power out of it. However, I think the 125bhp is necessary for daily driving. Definitely not sluggish.

TS can change this thread to Post new car collection euphoria instead?

:D

What is there to be euphoric? Buying a car is letting yourself to be gutted. See the following on how much tax you paid (first gutting). Look also at the price of the car and compared to similar models selling in other countries. e.g. for my car A3 sedan in UK is selling about S$40K instead of $48K here (second gutting)

On an upbeat note, after being gutted everyone should rejoice after collecting the car. It is a definitely hard earned sweat and blood possession.

For me the current A3 setup at 125hp/200Nm is more than sufficient driving around in Singapore. It is snappy at the traffic lights and overtaking. And to me it is so frugal to the point of unbelievable. Hopefully, this will prolong the clutch/engine from wearing out.
