Kamani 3rd Gear April 3, 2015 Share April 3, 2015 Many of the middle eastern countries are made up of tribes. Tribal leaders scattered everywhere. The country's government cannot form a proper governing body as a result. The so called president and government are weak. Look at their history of civil unrest and no proper leadership to lead the country. Good targets for terror groups. It's no wonder there are so many dictators over there. Only a ruthless leader can unite the nation using fear as a weapon. That's what Saddam did - he may be a tyrant but he kept the harmony somehow - though the Kurds always had an axe to grind with him - so this middle eastern countries including Pakistan all have tribal warlords..... so there is no homogeneity in population at all

In this day and age, doubt anyone has the political will to settle all this unless it's in their backyard. Eg. China, Russia or America in the countries bordering them. In a way, Saudi intervene because it's their direct neighbour. If the conflict spills over, they will suffer directly. But now after Assad is beleaguered, u see that syria becomes worse, not better. That's why i find it ironic that America supports all this Arab spring simi LJ, when in actual fact, messing around with the regimes of these countries, always end up in a worse situation. Of course if you're one of the people being oppressed or killed/mistreated by the secret police, i guess life sucks Even the Turkish president Erdogran rules with an iron fist (people who say Mr Lee is a dictator has no facking idea what a dictator is)...

Yup, it's about culture and geography. Middle east is not a hospitable land. So tough minded independent people in small tribes has been the way of life for thousands of years. It's different from the fertile lands of USA/Europe whereby large groups of people can co-exist in peace. For them, it's about tribal loyalty and warlords. For Chinese, it's central control with close to absolute power.

Pocus Turbocharged April 3, 2015 Author Share April 3, 2015 (edited) Very relieved to hear the confirmed news, hope the transit back home will be a smooth one for them: Sorry but this incident made me see a new low for the Indian Navy's competencies. If they can't even do a proper evac, don't even need to talk about war. As for the PLA, I guessed they are somewhat more organized and more committed to the rescue. SINGAPORE - A Singaporean woman and her four children who were stranded in Yemen are on their way home, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Friday. The ministry said it approached several countries to help Madam Sherin Fathimah Syed Abdul Ravoof and her children leave Yemen since she contacted the ministry on Mar 31. It said in a statement: "We managed to secure assistance from the People's Republic of China (PRC), which agreed to allow them to leave on one of its vessels. "Madam Sherin and her children arrived safely in Djibouti on 2 April 2015. MFA continues to keep in touch with her, whilst arrangements are being made for them to fly back to Singapore." The ministry also thanked China in the statement: "MFA would like to thank the PRC Government for its positive and speedy response in facilitating the departure of Madam Sherin and her children." Madam Sherin, 37, and her children, aged between four and 13, moved to Yemen six months ago to live with her Yemeni husband. Her businessman husband, who had travelled to Saudi Arabia on a pilgrimage, has been unable to return to Yemen since the unrest worsened. Apart from Singapore, China also helped nine other countries evacuate more than 200 of their citizens from Yemen, where Iran-allied rebels have seized the two main cities. This is the first time Beijing has assisted in the evacuation of foreign nationals during an international crisis according to a Reuters report. A Chinese missile frigate carried the foreign nationals from the Port of Aden, bound for Djibouti on the Horn of Africa, on Thursday afternoon, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on its website late Thursday. http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/more-singapore-stories/story/singaporean-woman-and-four-children-evacuated-yemen-chin Edited April 3, 2015 by Pocus

Not being able to rescue a SG citizen should not be seen as a measure of their competency. Pocus Turbocharged April 4, 2015 Author Share April 4, 2015 (edited) Indian vessel will give priority to Indian nationals.... Not being able to rescue a SG citizen should not be seen as a measure of their competency. Might as well blame the SG navy for not deploying any vessel to rescue our own guys. If you follow the story, the family were initially given space for the Indian vessel by was rejected when they arrived to board it. This is a logistical cock up on their part, considering them constantly selling their Navy as being better than the PRC sometimes. As for our navy, we have no diplomatic ties hence we can't just sail and dock our navy ships at their port without considering it as an act of war.
