Yes, current gen Legacy. Stopped for petrol.

It is a shame a turbo two litre is no longer an option. I do believe it was a major selling point for the previous Legacy.

Personally speaking though I still find the pre-facelift 4th gen (BL?) Legacy the best looking. I especially liked the rear tail light style.

Current one looks nice and classy up front, but the rear end just seems... a bit peculiar to me.

The interesting thing is that the Forester is a 2.0L turbo... why don't just put that engine in the Legacy and offer another model... I think that could be the premium model while the 2.5 L is the base model. Stock the features and make it competitive price-wise and they'll sell like hotcakes. Just like the previous Imprezas... sold by the container loads... even today there are so many around... When Tan Chong took over Motor Image, they lowered prices and really moved lots of Imprezas... I was impressed... but they seem to have lost some steam now...

Turbocharged

Really? What's your ride?

Adaptive headlights as in what the 2017 Forester is getting, along with LED high beams? That would be very nice, and a little overdue. But just give me the LED high beams can already. Halogen high beams aren't a dealbreaker by any means, but I still don't like them on my Legacy. I do love my Legacy's LED low beams.

Mondeo Mk V.

Yeah... I always find it kind of silly when a car's headlamps are advertised as HID, LED, etc., but then the high beam is just a regular bulb. Top examples being the current Toyota Harrier and the Honda Vezel. Eh, even pre-facelift Forester also using HID reflector but halogen high beam.

I thought this Legacy was using xenon headlamps? Didn't know they were LED low beams.

I'm sure everyone's asked that question, including me, and we can only speculate as to the answer. But my theory is that a 2.0T could cannibalise 3.6 sales in the US (and, to a lesser extent, in markets like Australia), which is probably Subaru's biggest market. And in the US, Subaru's gunning for Honda and Toyota, who are both playing the no-replacement-for-displacement game (both offer 3.5l V6 for flagship Accord & Camry), so the Legacy 3.6 needs to have clear flagship positioning there. Yes, US Optima and Sonata are both 2.0T but they aren't the market leaders, and therefore not a role model for Subaru.

I suspect turbo engines are a bit more expensive to manufacture than NA, which would inflate OMV and potentially bring SG pricing of the Legacy roughly on a par with Camry, etc. Would a Legacy survive that sort of head-on completion? I don't know. I do know that I probably wouldn't have bought it, because the value proposition for me was being able to get a 2.5NA AWD MIJ car for less than the price of 2.0NA FWD Korean cars.

Whoa! Hey @teomingern this guy is driving our stretch-goal dream car! Aston Martin nose. And what an engine. Premium hi-fi and loads of airbags too, if I remember right. Worth the lack of accessories. I might well have gotten one if I could have afforded it.

Top US-spec Legacy is using HID/xenon. JDM and SG are using LED low beams, which I like very much.

Yeah Muser, I know right... lucky guy... I have been lurking in the Mondeo forums and talking to this treasure trove of info... unfortunately, it was too much of a stretch... sigh... it's a really very nice car.

Slightly over 200km to go before completing the break in of the car.

Tried using S mode over some suburban roads (80km/h limit) just now and the engine feels more engaged. The coasting rpm in S mode is higher ~1900rpm, this gives a feel of a rougher coasting but places the engine at a higher torque curve making roll on acceleration a much more effortless affair than I mode.

I would say that the I mode is great for highway cruising where the RPM sits low and give the car a refine and quiet drive at constant speeds.

The S mode is good for everyday driving in stop start traffic conditions.

The paddle shift mode is great for some fun in the twisties. Can't wait to bring the Legacy up the mountains..

Hi Legacy MCFers,

I've booked my Legacy 2 weeks back. The Motor Image SA asked if I want to do soundproofing and rust-proofing of the underside. Costs $500 - $600 for both.

What's the noise and insulation of the stock Legacy? For a mid-sized executive sedan, which the Legacy is one, I think it should be pretty alright. During the short test-drive, I found it OK. I'm not a super-sensitive to noise driver. Dont need the cabin to be as quiet as a Lexus. If I am, I would have gotten that instead [if I could afford one].

I did the rust-proofing for the underside. Have any of you guys got the sound proofing for the underside? Is it helpful? Lowers the noise a great deal?

Thanks in advance for sharing your views.

Tidy, congruous and just nice looking. And neatly shaped... and the tail lights shape up with the top curve.

Something that's always bothered me about the recent Audi models' rear is how the tail lights are straight but the trunk top is curved.

bl-25-001.jpg

tidy front end too :yeah-im-not-drunk:

Anyhow, I know how you're feeling with the lack of available accessories. I live with an equally, if not rarer, model.

On another note I wonder when they'll add the adaptive headlights to the Legacy.

This model is the best model... and also one of the best equipped I think at that point when it was launched.

This type of sound-proofing will cut the high frequency noise and vibration. It simply damps the fine high frequency vibrations, and high pitch noises that cut through the bottom of the car will be cut off (not complete). The lower frequency noises like tire roar, engine rumble will be be slightly muted as the higher frequencies are cut off but you will still hear these, you might even find no difference... don't expect a night and day difference, that's all I'm saying.

Hello bro...you should have asked your SA for free!. My SA got it done for free on my 2015 model for both rust and sound proofing!

It is quiet but I preferred some sound of the boxer engine. Missed my WRX loud noisy sound!!!

Haiz ... i didnt know lor.   [:/]

Maybe i'll try asking for window visors from the SA. But fully paid, so probably no chance.

To all potential Legacy and Subaru buyers, you know what to ask for before you sign on the dotted line.  [smash]

Hi bro and a belated welcome to the Legacy BN9 (2015+) thread. Sorry it took a while to reply, but most of us chat on the BN9 WhatsApp group these days and don’t check MCF as regularly as we used to. Thanks again for joining our WhatsApp group.

Sensitivity to noise varies greatly. It’s very personal. I feel the BN9 is quite quiet, but others have been driven crazy. It’s certainly far more quiet than my old Kia Cerato Forte, but is obviously a far cry from Lexus or a BMW 7-series. Now that I’ve insulated my undercarriage, I can actually live with noise from the doors, etc. It’s the undercarriage noise that drove me nuts.

First things first, though. Check your tyre pressure. MI delivers BN9s with tyres pumped to between 280-320. Siao. Our manuals specify 230 front, 220 rear. Following the manual greatly reduces tyre noise, while also drastically improving ride comfort.

MI offers 3 types of undercarriage coating, all using Clasani products.

Order of application:

  1. Sound dampening (confirmed to be Clasani CS 8833), which is a smooth coating; $290
  2. Anti-rust (confirmed to be Clasani CS 705), which is a rough coating; $290
  3. Undercarriage protector (probably Clasani CS 706 though I still don't know; I intend to find out at some point); $250

You’re not the first Subaru driver to do the rust-proofing layer first. But I assume it means you can’t add the sound dampening layer unless you want to ignore MI’s application order.

I did all three at one go and am happy with the results. The undercarriage protector and anti-rust layers are more physical layers of protection than sound insulation, but I figured any undercarriage layer will help to dampen sound to some degree, so the more the merrier, lol. Plus being able to claim Duo points helped. Of course, I can’t isolate the effects of each layer since I didn’t do them in stages. And ymmv when it comes to how effective the results are. I feel it was effective but others expected more (though no one else I know personally has done all 3 layers).

MI also offers two types of door, roof, etc, soundproofing:

There are no BN9 bros I know who have done door, etc, soundproofing yet but some Forester (@mrhan1982 being one) and Outback bros (at least 3 of them, & Outback BS9 is in many ways the same car as the BN9) have done the 3M, and are happy with the results.

Most outside workshops use STP sound insulation panels, and after getting quotes from a dozen of them, I've found that pricing ranges from about $400 for double-layer 4-doors entry-level STP DrArtex Lite, to about $700 for top-grade double-layer 4-doors STP DrArtex Gold. STP's official distributor, RF Electronics, recommends adding an additional layer of SPL 04 to cut high frequencies and add some sound insulation. Average market rate for SPL 04 is about $150 or 4 doors.

Depends on how much loan you take, and for how long. If SE not making much from you, they won't offer many freebies. Also depends on when you buy your car. Diff periods, diff promos. So you're also driving Legacy BN9? Come join our WhatsApp group. PM-ed you.

Also got free Subaru Nano Seal Paint Protection applied before car collection.

When you buy? I haven't heard of any other BN9 owner getting this so you must have bought at a good time. Or your bargaining skills are power, hahah.

After getting my Legacy from Motor Image, I was checking out paint protection systems.

I made a post in another thread:

http://www.mycarforum.com/topic/2700183-supremo-car-opening-special-for-paint-protection/?p=5910832

Take a look about what I found out on this subject.

Great pictures of your beautiful ride! Sounds like you're happy with what you got for the money.

So you've done PPS and undercarriage rustproofing. You know that means you need to continue, right? Door soundproofing? ICE upgrade? Better solar film?

Not to mention legal performance upgrades such as intake, exhaust (Fujitsubo makes a legal axleback Authorize S system for the BN9) and, of course, stickers! +5hp per sticker  [thumbsup] The stuffed toys my CO and kids added to my car each -5hp  [bounce2]

Heheh.

Hi Muser,

Where to get legal performance upgrades such as intake, exhaust (Fujitsubo makes a legal axleback Authorize S system for the BN9) ???

Which is the dealer?

Hi Muser,

Where to get legal performance upgrades such as intake, exhaust (Fujitsubo makes a legal axleback Authorize S system for the BN9) ???

Which is the dealer?

ST Powered is the Fujitsubo dealer but it seems that they never bothered to certify our car's exhaust model, so we have to either get it certified with LTA ourselves, or wait for other alternatives from ST Powered. They are still checking on alternatives for me. They haven't even given me a price quote for the BN9's Authorize S model. If we have to certify the exhaust ourselves, it may actually end up making more sense to buy from overseas, depending on ST Powered's markup. I try and support local retailers whenever possible, and enjoy having face-to-face aftersales support, but sometimes the markup's prohibitive.

FYI, HKS doesn't have an exhaust system for the BN9 yet but local HKS dealer Garage R says they'll tell me when they do.

As for air filters, Hurricane and K&N are available locally, although there's a markup. Devillian Motorsports is the local dealer for aFe Power but their price for an aFe Takeda Stage 2 intake is more than S$200 above eBay, even after factoring in shipping, so it's hard to justify. SSD doesn't have a dealer here and neither does AEM, but their intake and filter combos look like good value on eBay. Blitz filters are easily available on Rakuten, and at various local retailers here. Among the above filter options, only K&N is oiled. The rest are dry, and most are washable and reusable.

How's the fuel consumption of your silver Legacy?

You're considering both FXT and Legacy, right? If FC is your main concern, it sure sounds like the Legacy is a little more economical from bros' reports, in general. But surely you have other criteria. How much rear passenger space do you need? Is straight line power important to you? Do you plan to go off road at all? Do you want a central channel and sub in your sound system or does that not matter to you?
